Today at the feeder (1 Viewer)

Another rainy, windy and cool day. So far today at the feeders I've seen A. Goldfinches, Purple Finches, Mourning Dove, Song Sparrow and Common Grackles. A RT Hummingbird visited one of the hummingbird feeders. A Couple of American Robins are poking around on the lawn near the feeders.
Unfortunately I've had to cut down the shrubs that provided the best cover near the feeders and that seems to be affecting the variety of species. I could move move the feeders closer to another patch of cover but then they would be too far for good photos.
Right now an Eastern Chipmunk is helping himself from the feeder.
All of the shrubs except the white Lilac seem to be in bloom and it will be out in another couple of days.

We have been having three DOWNY WOODPECKERS, one male & two females, coming to our peanut & suet feeders. Also two RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS frequent the peanut feeder. Other less exciting stuff includes House Sparrows, House Finch, Mourning Doves, Rock Pigeons, Common Grackles, European Starlings. Once in a while we get a couple of Black-capped Chickadees coming in for a snack.

Hi Sara;
Great to hear from you. There has been very little NA stuff on here but I think/hope that will change a bit if this thread is revived.
I wonder if there is anyone else left on here of the gang from Birdwatcher's Digest?

Hi ya Dan

Please to report that I now have the Red-headed Woodies coming by every day which is the usual during breeding season but never during the winter. Hopefully, I'll be seeing some juvies soon.

That's great, KC. I haven't got any woodpeckers this year, probably because there isn't any good cover really close.
We came home from shopping yesterday to find a Rose-breasted Grosbeak at the feeders. He wouldn't turn around for me to get any shots from the front.
I'm hoping he will be back today.
Sara; glad you like my site. If you open the site and scroll down to "New" there are some fairly nice shots (I think).

Nothing exciting here (certainly not a Scarlet Tanager. I haven't seen one in years). I have moved my main feeder about 10' closer to the house in hopes of getting better photo ops. I hope that I don't scare everything away.

Nice to have nesting Phoebes so close Sara ;)

Bear in mind though that nest shots are not allowed on BF ;)

I had a visit from a flock of Common grackles this AM. Not a big number, only about 12, but that's the largest group so far this year. I've had one or two at a time but that was all. Not having them sure does make the seed last a lot longer.
I have sown grass seed in the are beside the feeders, the area that we were forced to clear of the old overgrown shrubs. The doves are spending a lot of time on the patch apparently eating my grass seed.:-C

Hi Sara

BF is all about what's good for the bird life. We don't want to give anyone the idea that disturbing a nest site to get pictures is a good idea. Heck, I had one guy brag about climbing a tree to get a shot of the nest and the nestlings. So we instituted a blanket ban on nest/egg shots.

While I may not be getting the variety of birds that I would like this year, I am getting lots of colour.

A lot of words are spelled differently in Canada and the UK connected countries - gray not grey; colour not color; flavour not flavor. The list goes on. US literature is influencing people towards the US spellings and eventually the traditional spellings will disappear. That's OK though because language has always evolved.
