Here in S OH there is a dialect that murders all English !
Still watching last nest of tree swallows in Martin house.
Should leave soon. Hear Oriole in Sycamore & get a quick glimpse if patient!
Also heard C Wren 1st time since fledge. Such a big voice from such a small bird!
Baby blues are still being fed from tree to tree.

Seems like we are getting rain every day now! It is currently just sprinkling, but that has not stopped the Downy & Red-bellied Woodpeckers coming into our feeders to feed on the peanuts and suet. Also a few American Robins, Mourning Doves and House Sparrow picking around on the ground below the feeders.

I almost wish I could say the same thing Dan. My feeders are draining at an alarming rate ;)

I've taken to hanging pine cones on mono-filament line and coating one side of the pine cone with Peanut butter. The Chickadees are loving it. I keep one side of the cone clean so they are not getting peanut butter on their feathers.

I usually just smear peanut butter on the bark of the branch that my feeders hang from.
I had barely finished typing my previous post when I saw this Gray Partridge fly in. He didn't feed but did walk under the feeders.

Like the partridge pic. New one for me. We have a turkey hen that takes a daily stroll round our property. If she spots me she runs for far corner of yard. Suspect nest in there. Hope I get to see babes. Have only glimpsed them once.

Watched a bird leaping & acting strangely in front yard last eve at dusk. First thought it was a robin but later id it as thrush. ( hope I get my farsightedness back clearly after cataract surgery 3wks ago!).

I 'm sure you will get back to normal sight soon. My wife had both eyes done and it has turned out fine.
Very quiet at my feeders just now Blue Jays and Red Squirrels seem to be about all.

Birds seen on my dead miniature, peach tree (the birds love it so much I won't let The Hubs take it down): Lesser green-back goldfinch, house finch, fox sparrow, house wren, Anna's humming bird, California Towhee, mourning dove, hooded oriole, and Black Phoebe. The birds love this small tree and seems to co-exist peacefully.

That is an impressive list. It is really quiet at my feeders, probably too much natural feed around. The other issue is the removal of the shrubs that provided cover near the feeders. It had to be done but it does seem to be having an impact. I do have a few A. Goldfinches, Blue Jays, Mourning Doves and yesterday a single B-C Chickadee. Purple Finches are still the most plentiful of the birds at my feeders.

A few Common Grackles are at the feeders. They seem to really like the suet. I need to get out there and fill the sunflower feeder and the suet feeder. Considering the lack of birds, I'm still going through quite a lot of seed. I know that he squirrels and chipmunks are stealing quite a lot.:eek!:

Bet u have grackles when you're not looking. Can't wait for Aug when they leave!!
Saw another first !! Yellow billed cuckoo!!
Noticed strange action in large persimmon tree. Bird snaking along branches(looking for caterpillars bk said) hard to see even w/ binos as mostly behind leaves. Then just before it flew it clucked rapidly!!

Nice sighting. I had one here a few years back and a lot of the Island birders came out to see it.
Yesterday we had 4 Ospreys circling and calling above the house. I'm guessing parents and two youngsters who had just learned to fly. They stayed around for at least 1/2 hour.

Not what it was intended for

I must fill this ant guard a dozen times each day. The Chickadees love bathing in it.

I've just had the normal at my feeders today, a pair of American Goldfinches, a Lesser Goldfinch, several House Finches, and some Anna's Hummingbirds.
