LTTs are just my favourite! Shame I so rarely see them in the flesh, so it's good to share yours, Kits. However, I have to say that if I put out fat balls like that, the Starlings would strip them before any LTTs could get a look in!

Oh a video of the robin would be good!

I had a go this afternoon but the camcorder freaked it out so will have to introduce it slowly at a distance, maybe try zooming in... though framing the video will be tricky!

It did come back when I put away the camera though.

At present, in the garden, in the rain, I see....
A flock of Goldfinches & Chaffinches in the Willow & on the feeders.
A party of 8 LTT's feeding on the bird table & the feeders, passing through.
Several House Sparrows in the bush by the back door & on the patio.
A wren in & out of the Camelia bushes, searching for insects.
A Dunnock on the patio.
There is now a female Blackbird yelling a warning from the Buddleia & all the birds have flown, but I can't see what she was yelling at.

Bird watching out of the window in the rain these are what I saw.
This daft Wood Pigeon was trying to balance on the dead tree covered in ivy after the berries there.
A pair of Robins
The female Blackcap.

A Rook & a Jackdaw on the feeders.
A Crow & not sure if the right one is a Jackdaw or a Rook.

That bird was determined to get those berries, Fozzy & once balanced was eating as many as it could, then a Rook spooked it & it flew off. I haven't seen any other birds eating those berries at all. The creeper is covered in them as well.

Today's visitor is about 4 inches of snow in addition to what we already have. No birds.

Maybe you've attracted in a lot of white birds without realising it? ;)

Hacking out a bit of bramble in the garden today I disturbed a leafhopper and a plume moth - really good to see a plume moth, moths have been very thin on the ground (naturally) over the last couple of months. Have attached a photo.

The Robin in my garden now has a mate, they have been hanging around together and taking an interest in nest building in a quiet corner of the garden, presumably just part of courtship rather than actually getting ready for nesting as that should be about three months off yet! The new bird I think is the male, it has been singing a lot while the resident bird comes to feed from my hand, but has been coming over to me to pick up suet pellets so is becoming a lot tamer than when I first saw it. He's been singing from the fence while I've been at the back door, only about 8-10 feet away, which has been lovely.

The collared doves are starting to take an interest in twigs and I saw a woodpigeon collecting twigs last week too, so the birds are definitely sensing we've turned the corner of the year. I've seen the sparrows taking an interest in feathers too, though they seem to keep up their nests through the year as winter refuges so not so surprising to see them interested in nest material.

After sawing up some wood in the garden the male blackbird came to see me, poking around in the newly exposed patch of ground and as I crouched there he came over and cleaned and ate a worm, only about a foot or so from me - great to have such a good view of that, I really love how trusting some of the birds are now and how you can really get a front row seat for their activities. :t:

We get those moths here, Fozzy, but they are white in colour?
We have two Robins as well & the male is singing in the mornings.

There is another species that's white Val, I've seen those too - quite a lot of species of these by the look of it!

One of the Collared Doves sang a little today, just a few snatches of song. Lovely to hear some birdsong again - the Song and Mistle Thrushes have been singing a little bit too.

The male Dunnock has been singing here too, Fozzy.
Yesterday I saw your Robin video on YT. Such a sweet bird.
I have just seen several Goldfinches on our Buddleia eating the seeds from the dead flower heads. I didn't know they would do this.
OH hasn't finished pruning it this time. Usually it's all gone by now.

Interesting Val - I've some buddleia here and the only birds I see in it are the sparrows, but it's rare to see goldies in my garden.

Hoping to have another video to upload later, I took some footage of a kingfisher along the river near town this morning! There's been a lot of singing going on today here, have heard collared doves, song thrushes, mistle thrushs and robins and seen mallards displaying too. Not surprising as it's been lovely today!

Usual suspects have been in for lunch, the robin was upset though as just as it flew over to take some suet one of the collared doves flew up and perched on my hand instead. Fortunately that dove only ever perches on my left hand (don't know why!) so held out my right hand with some food and the robin could feed there without interference.

Hi all, I am still here! Just that there's not been anything worth reporting recently. The weather's been gloomy since the beginning of the year and the birds are not plentiful. Still no sign of any Blackcaps, that's probably because they know that the BTO want us to do a behaviour survey on them!
