That isn't a Greenfinch, Kits, I think it's a Siskin. Brilliant you are now getting them.
Here's one I took.

Yes, I know it's a siskin, Val! I was labelling various pictures and realised after I had posted the photo that I had put the wrong name, and had even spelled that wrong! We have had siskins before, but not for a year or two, so I was very pleased that this one popped in.

As I had some end of month admin to do, I decided to do a bit of bird watching in the garden at the same time! Here are four of the regulars.

Two Pied Wagtails on the path a few houses down the road from my house this morning, have seen them around there once or twice before over the winter and am very pleased to see them here, a firm favourite of mine.

The old female Collared Dove came to be fed a little earlier, haven't seen her around for a bit. There was a lot of kerfuffle with birds taking flight around the neighbourhood, probably the sparrowhawk around, and she sat on my hand for quite some time looking around for danger, stretching her neck and getting her feet placed for a leap but nothing appeared so she calmed down after a minute or two.

Today there were five siskins in! Three goldfinches visited. Also male and female bullfinch as well as the usual crew.

Nice pictures Wendy.

We had mostly house sparrows huddled on the window sills. Bitterly cold today. I turned on the clothes dryer a few times just so the hot air from the vent would give some warmth to our feathered friends.

Not actually in my garden, but just down the lane, a very happy Robin, singing his little heart out! Could almost believe that it was spring.

At the Exeter services on the way home this evening, at dusk, a hundred or so Pied Wagtails in the car park trees. They settled in three trees, side by side, far too many birds to be in one tree. Amazing sight, even though I have seen it before elsewhere. Everyone was looking up at them too.

Collard dove pair have been around all day, Aswell as 15+ house sparrows, 10+ starling, few blue tits, few blackbirds, single dunnock, few wood piegions, and I haven't seen them but no question the 2 robins have been around. Also had a geese flock over yesterday evening.
