I'd love to see a large roost of Pied Wagtails like that!

Just had the sparrowhawk in my garden; while I was sitting on the back step he flew in and perched in the top of my cherry tree, which rather shocked the blackbird that had landed near me for a feed. The hawk sat there for a while, something which surprised me as he could see me and looked over a few times but even when I stood up and walked over towards the tree he was fairly disinterested and only flew off when something a few gardens away caught his eye.

I saw a Sparrowhawk fly through this morning too, I 'think' that was the female though, I remember seeing much more brown and stronger barring. Judging from the direction they're flying through I may need to change the position of the hanging feeder!

I think the tame robin has died during the cold weather, I've not seen it for a long time now and after some territorial and courtship display its mate now has a new friend and is becoming tamer; it comes to see me when I go to the door and sings quietly, plus this afternoon it actually flew across and took some food from my hand. Its new mate is quite shy but did fly down to take some food after its mate had been down and collected some.

Hopefully Birding...
Sad news if it died....But glad the new 2 are taming up. I have seen 2 in my garden lately, sadly I haven't really got the time to try and make them tame and feed from my hand.

I had been expecting it really, the cold weather is very tough on small birds, but it could have been killed by a sparrowhawk or in a territorial struggle, or by a cat. Could also still be alive but moved elsewhere (less likely I think). I know that I kept thinking the original Collared Dove I tamed was dead after long periods of not seeing her but then she keeps turning up again, must be at least three or four years since I first tamed her now!

Sorry if your robin died!

The only ones who would feed from my hand were those I hand raised from chicks. One time I raised two and they were released into my garden. A few days later I went to a neighbour's house to see what things she was selling in her yard.

After a bit one robin was in the near-by tree. I looked and said," Hi sweetheart
How are you doing?" ... having no idea if this was one of *mine*.

Within a minute the robin flew down and perched on my shoulder. I bent my neck around to give her a cuddle. Out of no where came the other and perched on my head. Not wanting to get poopy I reached up and took her in my hands and gave her a smooch.

The neighbour started calling for her husband. " BOB! BOB! !!! Look! It's. like St. Francis!!"

I never did tell how I had birds come to me. LOL!

~~~~~> Many Cardinals, House Sparrows, Tree Creepers and Downy WPs today. No gulls over head. The lake is starting to freeze over so more are at the electric power station where there is open water.
The usual suspects here, plus, but not in our garden, 3 doors up the road, a male Bullfinch.
Why do they shun our garden, we have the same food out that they have!!!!
Not in the garden, but a few houses away I saw a sparrowhawk flying low along the road and then it went in to a garden, Lovely early morning sight.
These were here this afternoon. Two female Reed Buntings.
We get males in the garden quite often, but not usually females.
Taken through the double glazing so not the sharpest.
I know. You have a great shot but it is through a window... May I say your window is far cleaner than mine! I have muddy smudges on the back door because of the German Shepherd puppies. (20 months) LOL!
Still ... nice photos!
That's great Val - lucky you! Great to get some photos of them too, not bad one's at all! :t:
I've often seen them around the local area but have never seen one in my garden. Super birds, I really like them a lot.
