We saw Fallow very early this morning, on Halon Hill Exeter, just off the main A38 road in the dip where the forest path is. The road goes around a corner & you can see the path below, it was just getting light. These deer are the black variety. There is a small herd of them that live in that area.

Beautiful weather today, if rather blustery. Saw a butterfly earlier, though just a shadow against the sun so no idea of species, plus a Bee Fly! Also saw the dunnocks mating this morning... They should get a room! ;-)

The Blue Jays, Robins, Cardinals, and Sparrows joined forces this morning and were screaming! OK. What is the problem? Little Screach Owl in the weeping willow. Funny thing is I went to see why they were upset and then they all went about their business and the owl is still there! Hmmmm.

Who knows!

Have seen peacock and brimstone butterflies in the garden since posting, and a tiny ladybird, about 2mm long. I think it 'might' be Nephus quadrimaculatus, which is fairly rare (but increasing in number in the south east) but have asked for confirmation in the insects part of the forum as my insect id is rather patchy!

Pics:

1. small ladybird
2. leaves starting to appear on my japonica shrub
3. primrose in flower
4. daffodil in flower

I filled the feeders, then came indoors, a second later the Rooks, Crows, Magpies & Jackdaws came down in their droves.
A dreadful squawking & a Magpie had a Jackdaw pinned to the patio. I banged on the window & they all flew away. Leaving behind a few feathers.

Male black cap in today as well as the jays, goldfinches, siskins, goldcrest, GSW, usual tits, wood pigeons, blackbirds, chaffinches and magpies.

Blackcap was back today! The goldcrest came and sat on a branch just outside my study window, but I didn't dare move to grab the camera as I would have spooked him. It was lovely to see him so close up.

Very nice pics! Thank you!

Lovely, Fozzy. Thanks for sharing.

You're very welcome. I sent a report of the ladybird to the ladybird survey and got a very enthused reply today! :t:

What a fantastic record – thank you so much – I will add this record to our database – thanks

Will be keeping an eye out for those from now on as I'm sure I've seen them before and wondered what they were.

Very cool to have blackcaps. I think I might have caught a snatch of willow warbler song when I left for work this morning, I remember hearing one at the same place last spring.

Greenfinches singing in the neighbourhood this morning and a goldfinch appeared on my feeders. A pair of blue tits are hanging around my garden too - all species I don't see in my garden as much as I'd like, though the place is packed with other birds so I've no complaints!

Thanks Kits. I should really start recording what I find in my garden as I do get a lot of interesting insects in my garden. I'll be looking out for the 16 spot ladybirds on my patch to report to ladybird survey too, not sure if a one-off but we had a vast number of those last May, probably many thousands!

Depending on your defintion of a 'visitor'.....I had a Red Kite soaring over the house today...twice! As usual, it was long gone before I had chance to even get to the camera. :-C Goodness knows how far they fly in a day. I do know that a pair have been sighted several times now about 20 miles away as the Kite flies, so maybe one of them?
