For once there has been something other than greenfinches and starlings today. First house sparrow (female) I've seen in the garden for a while, a male chaffinch and two goldfinches. Maybe things will start to pick up.

Today I was at Newton Abbot race course car boot sale.
There were Canada Geese, Pied Wagtails, a flock of Linnets, Meadow Pipits & a Sky Lark singing it's head off in the field there. Amazing what you do see at some car boot sales.:t:eek::D

A fat bumble bee was in the garden today. Believe it or not, it scared a visiting cock pheasant! It buzzed close by its face and the pheasant took off at a run across the lawn. OH and I couldn't believe it!

That would be funny to see LOL

Lovely, interesting sightings, and pictures everyone.

Now, I must post more on this thread as it has been neglected of late.

I was really pleased to see the greenfinches back today, plus a male bullfinch. Other than that (so far) it has been the usual rooks, blue tits, great tits, 1 coal tit, lots of chaffinches and wood pigeons.

Our Blackcap seems to have gone as well, Wendy, but two male Reed Buntings were back on the patio, after an absence of a couple of days, not sure if they are the same birds from previous sightings. I do wonder where the females are though? We have only had males in the garden this Winter. Weird that!

We have had the 5 Goldfinches today, no idea where the 6th one is though. A Wren & a Pied Wagtail, plus Chaffinch, Sparrow, Blackbird, Rook, Collard Dove, Robin & one lone Greenfinch, just the one.

I had a Sparrowhawk today for the first time for ages. He looked really disappointed surveying the deserted feeders, hawthorn etc. He missed this weeks highlight, a pair of Coal Tits, by about 3 hours. Just as well. Nice Blackcap Wendy.

Well done with your Blackcap pic, Wendy!:t:

I haven't seen the female Blackcap that was visiting my garden for a month now!

Bet that was good to see the Sparrowhawk, Roy! Lucky Coal Tits!:t:

I haven't seen the Sparrowhawk here for ages Roy, good you have one, or maybe not for your little birds.|:(|

Absolutely super, Wendy:t:

Ours was back today also, in all that hail, on the bird table & for the first time ever, there was a Reed Bunting feeding on the bird table at the same time. I have never seen the latter do that before, they always are on the patio.|:S|

Thanks for the kind comments about my Blackcap photo. I was really chuffed because he was only about three feet away outside the kitchen window. Normally when he's been on there before he's flown at the mere sight of movement in the kitchen, but today he stayed put.

All the usual suspects returned after the cat went. ;) Highlights were the Blackcap (male) for about half an hour and then the Siskin female. A little while ago the Siskin male was in too.

Blackies, Woodies, CDs and Dunnocks have all been chasing/flirting/scrapping in and around the garden, most activity of this sort that I have seen so far this 'spring'.

One cock pheasant had a wander round this afternoon. Lots and lots of chaffinches, jackdaws, rooks, wood pigeons, a couple of coal tits, a solitary great tit and a solitary blue tit, 2 magpies, 3 blackbirds and a robin today.

The fog lifted exposing glorious blue skies and a Wren singing this morning.
Has become overcast now, but not before I managed to see a few nice Birds including a Water Rail at Hendre Lakes. :t:

Very nice photo's, Pie.

I actually heard the dawn chorus this morning, Robin was first, then Blackbird, then Wren, then Dunnock & then everything else, except a Song Thrush, that one doesn't seem to start singing till mid morning.|:d|
