My goal this year is to go out and make a proper effort to find new birds. These will have to be mainly in my local patch (Dorset) as I am reliant on public transport. Here is my list for 2019, I will be updating it as we go. Birds in bold are my highlights/favourite sightings.

Wonderful day out at Arne today. Amazing weather for this time of year. Added 9 new year firsts, including great views of Curlew, Jay, and Green Woodpecker.

Cold, grey day today, but finally saw the Lesser Yellowlegs at Lodmoor (a rare vagrant from North America) and a Eurasian Spoonbill. Later, spotted the long staying Ring-necked Duck at Radipole. Great birding day!

Very windy day. While walking the dog, a pheasant shot out and nearly gave me a heart attack! But at least another tick for the year list.

Had an amazing day out at Ham Wall RSPB yesterday. Bird paradise! Saw 5 new lifers including Bittern (at last!), Hobby and Black Tern. Added 6 to my year list:
