Tour adverts, a whinge (1 Viewer)

How do you think it has happened then?
IT mishap? the poster having a compromised email that got flagged? One of a billion technical errors or side effects?

It would be weird that a established company would ban one person over a reasonable query based on the information we have, on a public forum, where it would presumably do more harm than good. And that assumes that Naturetrek and specifically the people dealing with the computer side of things know this conversation exists and can correlate our Andy with the email in there records (Andy's email is not visible in his public account).

I can book myself and pay half as much when my wife and I travel and contract with a guide and make our own hotel accommodations. My mother used to put together tours and she made me aware that with her large groups there were many hotels and restaurants that could not be used.

With my own booking if something happens and I need to cancel the entire trip or part way through a trip I can do so with no cost to use if done 24 hours in advance. The recent Windows security patch that shut down many airlines is a case in point. If you arrive a day late and the tour vehicle is on the road your options are quite limited and you are going to be out the cost. My wife and I arrived a day late in Costa Rica as our flight was cancelled as a result of an active volcano. We had to hire a car and driver to take us to the next stop for the group and we were very lucky to find the driver at such short notice.

I am skeptical they intentionally did this. It would be rather odd for nature Trek to be that bothered by your post, and choose to respond that way rather than reply in here directly.
All I can say is what happened, accident or not, this happened and it's a bit of a coincidence don't you think?

As to knowing which Andy I am, I use my full, real name on their site as I do here.

Yeah I assume the removal thing is done via email, and I don't know if your email actually reflects your name. For example my work email only incorporates part of my name, so even if I did use my real name here I am not sure they could link the two.

At any rate, if you are still interested in the trip its worth contacting them, something they say you can do if you have your name removed from their list by accident.

I had someone who contacted me having found a thread on here because his website cookies showed that people had visited his site through a link I posted on here so not remarkable to assume that the tour company followed the same route following increased traffic to that specific link & saw Andy's post.

Then not unremarkable for an over-reaction or individual action within the company.

As you say, other possibilities are perhaps as likely and it may be coincidence.

All the best

Paul

Given that my email address is literally my name, it wouldn't be easy to confuse me with anyone else.

I'm always amazed people can afford them! 🤣
Most trips can be done independently, using local guides which cuts out the usual additional guide costs associated with companies. Don't get me wrong, I'd have Paul Holt or Craig Robson by my side every time if my pockets were deeper!

Given the ability for people to be extremely vengeful if they get an opportunity for a blindside dig in the ruck,
nothing would surprise me.
