Hi Pianoman My house is at the edge of a small village in Breckland. Its a fairly flat agricultural area. The fields around my garden normally have barley or sugar beet for crops. The garden has old farm hedgerows down both sides, about 90 yards each side. These link with other hedges to a small deciduous wood about 300 yards away. This is listed as a County Wildlife Site but doesn't have public access. Apart from the hedgerows there are mature trees, Ash, Willow and a few silver birch, whitebeam and holly that I've planted over the years. You could say its untidy I suppose, I let nettles grow under the apple trees and the grass has dandelions, clover and every other weed known to man. But nobody can see it apart from us and we like to see Goldfinches on the seed heads and Greenwoodpeckers looking for ants. Not much water close by, just a small pond across the road, get a Moorhen sometimes from this, and a drainage ditch at the end of the garden which very occasionally attracts a Snipe in hard weather. I've looked at what others get in their gardens, I wish I had Redpolls, Nuthatch, and a few siskin in mine. Never had Redpoll, 1 Nuthatch in 30 years and maybe a couple of Siskin each year for a day or two. Wrong habitat so no point in hoping. I counted 65 woodpigeon in the garden last week, several short of my highest, Bet you don't wish for them.;) Lewis
