Would you mind posting a pic with the ATX95 in horizontal balanced postion? I am curious to see how far from the center of the head this has to be for balance. I have always thought the single pan/tilt tensioner of the GH2720QR would be a hindrance despite being marketed as a "Made for Birding" so if it has a tensioning sweet spot that still allows for panning when the scope is tilted that would be a good thing. I use a G2180 and Kowa 774 and 883 scopes. With no tension and the counterbalance spring disengaged, the 774 flops over backwards while the 883 can sit perfectly level (though any up/down tilt off the horizontal leads to a flop). HOWEVER, by engaging +1 on counterbalance spring and slight tilt tension the 774 achieves smooth gimbal-like one finger movement thru the full tilt/pan range with no re-tensioning required. Not matter where the scope is pointed it doesn't drift. It is a perfect point-n-release match. With the 883 I need to use a long QR plate you have with the scope mounted forward of the head center by ~4cm, engage -2 counterbalance and still can only get close to the gimbal-like movement of the 774. Tilt tension still needs tweaking at the end of the range. I actually had to overload the head with digiscoping kit to get the gimbal-like performance I prefer. In fact, I now use a Benro gimbal head for the 883 even when not digiscoping just for the ease of use.
