I finally got curious enough about the NL to give one a whirl, and it’s every bit as good as is mentioned in other posts, that being said, the SF is also an amazing optic. I’m very prone to seeing CA, and from what I had read, I expected to see pretty much none in these, but I do see a little, basically similar to the SF, maybe slightly more on the edges. The focuser on my pair is as smooth as butter in both directions, by far the best I’ve ever felt. These two aren’t really apples to apples with the difference in magnification, but I’m still enjoying the comparing of the two.

I must admit that the thought of dropping £2500 on a pair of binoculars was taking the wee wee a bit but like you I was curious and……….

With the full permission of my beloved (and holder of the purse) We visited the RSPB shop in Conwy and gave the NL’s a proper ‘hands on‘ test against the SF‘s and the Leica’s. All superb, and if you accepted the different image tones of them, IQ was pretty much equal across all three marques, at least to me. But the NL felt right, and the FOV just blew me away.

I now have the 10x42 NL’s with the ridiculously expensive, but so effective, forehead rest and am in optical heaven. They are sublime.

I haven’t noticed any CA on mine, probably my eyes, and I agree wholeheartedly that the focus mechanism is beautifully engineered and a smooth as a very smooth thing. It was first on the test tick box as my Habicht 7x42’s are a tad on the stiff side.

Lovely bino’s and so satisfying to hear ‘You spent that on a pair of binoculars. You must be mad!’ from my darling sons!
