Unidentified chick rescued from cat. Sámara, Costa Rica (1 Viewer)

This little chick was rescued from a cat in the woods. It is safe with a neighbor, but she needs to identify it, and learn what to feed it, as the parents have not appeared to collect it. The local forum has determined that it is a baby Chachalaca. Any ideas? Thanks!

Looks like a Chachalaca. It's definitely in the realm of Turkeys/Chickens/Quails/Pheasants/Chachalacas/Guans/etc. A Chachalaca is much more likely (and looks a better match to my non-expert eye) than a Bobwhite, Wood-Quail, or Guan.

However, in any of those cases it will have a diet not too far from a chicken and can probably be fed something commercially available for baby chickens/turkeys until more can be figured out. If they can't get to that kind of food quickly, some mushy stuff like polenta, hard boiled egg, a bit of cooked green veg should all be ok.

There is likely to be a wildlife rescue in CR that can give better advice, but I am not familiar.
