Along the Salwarpe track yesterday pm there were 7+ Beautiful Demoiselles, 4+ Banded Demoiselles (very early) and a Holly Blue- all Upton year firsts I believe? (Des?!)

Jared

Yes Jared. I saw them as well. Worcestershire firsts in fact, except for Holly Blue.

Despite the lack of passage waders, if we can record Snipe, Med Gull, all the duck, Garden Warbler, Redpoll etc on Saturday we shouldnt finish last. I am expecting Middleton and Belvide to be in the mid 90s.
I mentioned the May 3rd Bird Race on the Lincs Bird Club forum and now it looks like Far Ings and Gibraltar Point may give it a go. The more the merrier.

I think we will need a handicap system in place, the more inland you are the more points start you get. :t:John

Nipped down to the Flashes this evening for a couple of hours, to check on water levels and to see what had dropped in (hopefully).
The only migrant was a summer plumaged 'schinzii' dunlin.
counts: Shoveler 3, shelduck 3, gadwall 6, tufted 12,
Avocet 27, dunlin, oystercatcher 2, LRP 6, lapwing 2 overhead,
BHG 6 lotsof young
lesser whitethroat singing.

Cheers Geoff - I am trying to persuade my brother to get Frampton Marsh to also join in, in which case we all might as well go home ...

As one of (if not THE) largest Black-headed Gull colonies in the West Midlands it would be worth scrutinising every BHG at UW to check it isnt the Bonaparte's Gull that graced Marsh Lane today.

Points to note are the size (slightly smaller than a BHG), all black hood and small delicate black bill.

Frampton Marsh is brilliant for waders but you don't see many woodland species. Gibraltar Point has the best chance of beating Belvide, depends how many birders they get out in the field.

With my birding skills? After all, I did manage to find a RFBT and call it a robin, and a Baird's sand and call it a little stint!

Ah, we'll see what we can do. Probably won't be that many of us out there though :(

Did a quick reci and put up All dayer sheets. Added kestrel and swift to my year list. Also common sand and dunlin present. No shoveler although I was only there for a bit. Rob and myself sorted out a couple of jobs. Also first avocet chick hatched

For anyone on [email protected] I'll be tweeting brief updates on the all dayer tomorrow using the hashtag #uptonwarrenAD on my account @gertatron - hopefully with some dodgy phonescoped pics of any goodies - by that I mean the cakes of course!

Obviously this won't substitute the updates on this marvelous thread :t:
