JTB reports 25 Siskin at the Moors Pool landed in alders in front of his car briefly before flying westwards across the pool - remarkably the first sighting of the year

An adult Black-headed Gull from the Polish ringing scheme (yellow ring/black print) - T8E7 was at the Moors Pool yesterday morning. I think this may be a new or previously unrecorded bird at Upton Warren.

Also 24H0 a 7 year old ringed in the Cotswold Water Park was seen again at the Moors Pool.

T8E7 was ringed as a nestling at Mietkowski near Mietkow in south west Poland on the 6th May 2015 - we have had gulls ringed at the locality recorded at Upton Warren before.

This bird has only had one other sighting - at Rebhach Gravel Pits near Leipzig in east Germany on the 17th May 2017. Again we have had other birds noted at Upton also sighted there.

I am sure John will post an account of his full day on the reserve in due course but headlines were the Glaucous Gull in early at the Flashes from 4:20pm and a distinctive adult Yellow-legged Gull in the roost. This bird - missing the lower parts of both legs - could well be the same bird observed on a couple of dates a few years ago (including a Spring All-Dayer) and also at Belvide.

Just to confirm, a Yellow-legged Gull with similar injuries (surely the same bird?) was present as a second summer bird on the 5th and 6th May 2017 and then at Belvide Reservoir on the 1st June 2017.

In reviewing the records it was actually a Med Gull we previously had ringed at the same location of Mietkow; likewise it was a Med Gull that had also been previously recorded at Rehbach Gravel Pits.
