Upton Warren (44 Viewers)

Sunday...popped in for a few hours and very quiet at the Flashes with nothing of note.
Over at the Moors it looked busy around the East hide area but again quiet from the concrete hide. But there was a single Snipe coming and going and a Little Egret flew in had a walk around and then off again.....a lovely Dragonfly checked me out for a while.

Having gone through the the hundreds of shaky shots taken of the stunning Bittern I was able to sharpen a few for the record.

An enjoyable visit to the reserve yesterday, quiet at the Flashes apart from Lapwing, 1 Green Sandpiper and 12 Curlew. The Bittern didn’t show at the Moors but it was nice to see everything else in some lovely Autumnal sunshine!

Highlight bird for us was a Female Wheatear on Webbs car park, very unexpected to see here!

Watched a Grey Heron catch, kill and ultimately fail to swallow a Little Grebe this morning at the Moors pool. Attached video shows the final seconds of the Grebe’s existence. The heron then spent about 20 minutes trying to swallow the grebe but never got near being able to manage. Nature in the raw, not really very pleasant to watch and a shame for the grebe. Can’t imagine what the heron was thinking and the grebe obviously didn’t think it in any danger until it was way too late.
