Reported Sightings today;

Moors – 4 Great White Egret flew heading towards the Sailing Pool this morning. A new record count for the reserve. Also 2 otter at the north end. Little Egret, 9 Curlew, 21 Shoveler, 13 Teal, 14 Little Grebe, 3 Gadwall, 2 Water Rail, 20 Coot, 2 Grey Wagtail, Kingfisher, c50 Redwing.

Flashes – Goosander, Pintail, 4 Green Sandpiper, Jack Snipe, 4 Wigeon, 199 Lapwing, large movements of Woodpigeon of c500. Also 2 Siskin, 4 Skylark, good numbers of Redwing and Fieldfare, 2 Chiffchaff in shrubs by entrance. 2 Stonechat

It wasn't sustainable Bob, given that there's only 3/4 of us putting regular news out with the rest on a number of other sites eg Birdtack and eBird plus Facebook the later of which I refuse to sign up to. Log books aren't filled in or go missing and some information only comes out a few days later so the info is very fragmented.

That and having to decide which sightings are dodgy or mistaken means I didn't want to become the policeman of sightings at Upton Warren and end up upsetting some people.

Hopefully it's been of use and more people will share their sightings here, but I fear that social media rules these days, which is highly depressing!

First Brambling of the autumn this morning at the Moors by the A38 bird crop field. Numbers of Chaffinch and Linnet slowly building to over 100. 9 Curlew feeding in adjoining field.

Bit of a strange one but if anyone sees a HARRIS HAWK on the reserve can they please contact 07855 861248. A gentleman has lost one.

Last seen in the fields behind shaw lane at 8am this morning.

A pleasant couple of hours were had at the Moors yesterday afternoon with the dreary weather brightened by an appearance of a Ruddy Shelduck that flew off with the Greylags about 4pm. Other birds of note: Lapwing, Grey Heron, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Little Grebe, Reed Bunting, Cettis (heard) and 11 Curlew flew in just at we were leaving.

For those interested in such things, a ringed BHG at Upton today (WE46 - black on yellow) appears to be from a Czech ringing scheme. This would be the reserve's first from Czech Republic. I'll post info. here as and when I have a reply to my e-mail to the scheme organisers.

Flashes this morning - 3 Green Sandpiper, 3 Snipe, several hundred Redwing which was quite an impressive sight. 3 Bullfinch, Lesser Redpoll, 2 Goldcrest and Siskin over by the entrance.

Also Ruddy Shelduck again. Single Brambling, Blackcap, 2 Siskin, Lesser Redpoll, Chiffchaff, Male Stonechat, 8 Curlew and 2 Little Egret at the Moors

No sign of Bearded Tit at the Moors this am. Good no's Chaffinch tho, especially Salwarpe path area with at least 1 Brambling. 3 Pochard on the pools and a female Goosander briefly. Female Blackcap and 2 Coal Tit North Moors

Yesterday's Bearded Tit brings the year list to 145, excluding Ruddy Shelduck (not yet a category C5 species - ie vagrant naturalised species from outside Britain), but including Feral Pigeon.

Another couple of new darvic-ringed BHGs were seen yesterday on the Moors Pool whilst waiting for the Bearded Tit to show.
The first was TNP7 (black characters on a yellow ring). I'll post details when I have them.
The second was 2C20 (white characters on a red ring). This bird was ringed as an adult on 12/6/22 at Little Snoring in Norfolk. This is the first sighting since it was ringed.
Still awaiting news on last week's Czech bird.
