Spoonbill Finder

Well-known member
Don't know Phil. A chap from North Norfolk apparently.

The finder is originally from this neck of the woods, having watched Bittell and Upton Warren before moving to North Norfolk. I spoke to Gordon Greaves, who can vouch for the man's credentials, having known him before he moved away. Gordon was in the East Hide when the bird was seen and, although he didn't pick it up himself, said that the gulls were circling the area of the reedbed where it landed.

I stayed until 4.45 but had no further sighting of the bird. Good luck to those who are able to get to The Moors Pool tomorrow.

In addition to Upstarts sightings I saw a single Waxwing at Webbs early morning and a Little Grebe at the Moors Pool.

Mr Mandarin

Unfortunately, we didn't see Mrs Mandarin, but Mr Mandarin came into the channel at the new hide.
Had a really good day with the woodpecker, water rail and kestrel on the way back up the track.

Birding On The Edge
Members of the West Midland Bird Club may have noticed in the recent bulletin from the Club that the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust have permitted Club members free access to the Moors Pool for the next five year in recognition of the WMBC's contribution to the soon-to-be erected information panel in the new Bittern Hide (to be renamed the Joyce and Arthur Hide this forthcoming spring in recognition of the input by the Jacobs into the reserve over the years).

QUOTE]

FIVE YEARS!!!!!
I'm looking forward to seeing the 50" plasma, interactive, WiFi enabled, touchscreen info board!!!!!
FIVE PIGGING YEARS!!!!!
Where are we going to park? Will there be a waiting list for the hides?
I take it this is a reciprocal arrangement where we can visit their hides?
FIVE YEARS FREE!!!!!
:C:C:C:C:C:C:C

I'm don't think the arrangement will make a lot of difference. In practice WMBC members who are not members of the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust will probably visit if something rare or scarce turns up or if they just fancy spending a few hours there from time to time. Some WMBC members may also be members of other trusts in the West Midlands region. I'm a WMBC member and live in North Staffs but visit Upton Warren or Brandon Marsh occasionally when visiting relatives in Solihull and I dont mind paying £3. I don't think you will be inundated by WMBC members.

Although a WMBC member I rarely visit any of its reserves but I pay subscription in order to support all the hard work that goes into the compiling of records for the West Midlands region, to support the management of its reserves which in turn supports birds and other wildlife and supports the production of the annual report. Upton Warren is referred to in the annual report when commenting on bird species records from Worcestershire.

It's only Rock and Roller but I like it
Yesterday's haul takes December onto 79 species and 2012 as a whole on to 152 (obviously pending acceptance by the County Recorder of several species).

Has anyone has Rook or Little Owl this month; there have still to be any reports of Stonechat this year :-C

Hi Dean,
I think you are right but they shouldn't just give it away. Five years is excessive.
