Sightings for yesterday included Marsh Harrier reported over the Moors Pool at 10:30am, Red Kite and first summer Med Gull at the Flashes, Mute Swan brood with 6 cygnets at the Moors Pool, 3 GC Grebe also at the Moors Pool and most pleasing, a Shelduck family with 11 ducklings at the Flashes (plus 14 adults).

A total of 3 hours on site yesterday 1 around the Moors area and 2, 1300-1500, on the Flashes.....

Quiet is putting it mildly but when you don't see a single Hirundine or Swift in 3 hours in the middle of May it really does make you wonder what is going on? Knowing my luck someone will find a Rumper today ;)

Just in view from the new hide was a 1s Med Gull. I thought it had lost a bit of mascara from last week and put it down to moult. Ten minutes before I was due to cycle back to Brommers for the bus and another 1s Med dropped in. Checked back to the island from the main hide and the bird was still there which made the newbie number 2 and the original bird from last Thursday.

Good birding -

Thanks to Mike for helping me locate the Black Tern and also my first Jack Snipe. A great if chilly evening. Some ropey pics below. (Jack snipe has a bad leg which is why we think it is still here!)

Three hours to 19.45 yesterday evening revealed little different to the above. Increases were:
Common Tern 5, Swift 70+, GCG 3 adults + chick. The Black Tern was present to 19.45 at least (although not present today I gather) & the Jack Snipe showed on three occasions to the left of the east hide. Also 20-30 House Martins & c.10 Sand Martins but NO Swallows!

A quiet but pleasant 3 hours on site yesterday 1200-1500. Nice n sunny but always the wind in the North. A pair of Avocets now appear to be nesting on the Moors. No sign of Med Gulls but still a pair of Ringed Plover on the Flashes. Highlights a Red Kite, Spitfire and P51 Mustang.....

Good birding -
