Hello,

i urgently need advice on what to do I found an egg in the water at shore level in lake ontario about 1 foot deep in the water on the sand, If its possible id Like to make sure it hatches but i have no idea what species of bird or how to incubate it properly, im going to do some research in the meantime but id very much love any advice that increases the chance that this bird lives

It will be a wader / shorebird of some type. Sadly very little chance of it developing unless you have an incubator or find a specialist conservation or zoo establishment.

i can buy an incubator for 45 dollars thats not a worry but i also have a heat lamp, from what iv researched they are all pretty much same process keep egg just above human body temp, rotate 3 times a day and cover at night untill they hatch.

Is there anything wrong with this logic that you can think off? im trying to get a hold of the conservation people but well see.

Lots, I'm afraid...
The egg may well not be viable at all (you've no idea how long since it was last warm).
Even if it is - just - currently viable, it may well not hatch.
If it hatches, you may well not be able to raise it to fledging.
Even if it fledges it will be at substantial disadvantage compared to other fledglings raised naturally, and the great majority of those don't survive to adulthood.
So... 🤷🏻

May I add that it is probably illegal to have that egg collected

yes i get it anything is possible, I dont care what may or may not happen just want to give it the best chance when it had no chance at the bottom of the lake, if it makes it, it makes it, if it doesnt, well oh well I tried. it had a 100% death rate in the water thats for sure

from searching the internet it looks to be a quail egg or a waber egg not sure how to tell the difference
Size would be a key factor in identifying the species as this side of the pond we have little idea of the dimensions of the coin alongside. Good luck with your endeavours.
