[Vancouver Island, Canada] Could this be sth else then a gull? (1 Viewer)

The question is about the bird in the front. Is this an immature gull, or maybe a skua / petrel? Taken in December 2019, Vancouver Island BC.

It's a (2cal year) Glaucous-winged Gull or hybrid, Lou.

The birds in the background all look like Short-billed (= Mew) Gulls to me; I don't see any California Gulls
well, i pondered over that one, peter, since it is plain dark brown. but bill looks awfully weak and the whole bird slender. still, what i've stubbornly overlooked is the prominent secondary skirt. scaps are mostly juvenile i guess, another pitfall.
