decent day today for me
started off with a sparrow hawk being chased through by a magpie, i'm sure that's supposed to be the other way round.

lots of jackdaws.

1 colared dove
numerous blue and great tits.
dunnock
robin
blackbird
wren.
3 gold finches

and a garden first for us 1 dazzlingly bright male bullfinch.

Not online yesterday, so quick update - 2+ Redpolls (first of the winter) at my parents CB

Must be a few around the Poynton area CB as I had one last week on the feeders.

Redwings are passing over and stopping in the trees now and again :t:

also I had a quick look at Stanley Green where the "you know whats" were last December /early January (I counted 44 one day)... plenty of berries about ;)

No arrivals of "you know whats" yet but still plenty of time and to be honest its still pretty early for them. Sometimes the big arrivals come quite late in the winter. In 1989 (i think) the influx didn't appear till mid January.

Had some birds in Poynton in March, same site as a few years back.

I have been getting a "you know what" at our feeder recently. It is a rather unusual bird for us. I hope he keeps coming though!

:-O ....ok, I have to ask.....what's a "you know what"? lol

Great photos Dave - love the whistful Dunnock (the wet patio makes a surprisingly good background!) and the crazy Starling, great.

Captaincarot - good to see some handsome Jackdaws.

My PC is doing weird things so if I go quiet you'll know why!

bfb and CB were talking about their "you know whats" and I really didn't have any idea what their "whats" were! So, I put my "you know what" bird in my post. I guess I was being a little naughty.

I thought perhaps their "you know whats" may have been Rose-ringed Parakeets, but am probably wrong.

We have Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Downy Woodpeckers and Northern Flickers coming pretty regularly to our feeders, but my "you know what" is a male Hairy Woodpecker. This species we only see occasionally and sporadically. For some reason it has been coming quite often now. I hope it continues to visit our feeders for awhile!

hairy wood pecker hmm you know what i'd never heard of one of those before :king:

thanks hobbes we get jackdaws daily up to 9 at the same time they seem to really like hovis.

they don't seem too comforatle yet as they grab a beak full and then fly off with it, yesterday was the first day that they actually stayed and ate at the feeder.

talking of smash and grab artists here is one of todays star turns.

along with another of our hovisaholics our resident robin

Here's a bad photo of my now daily Coal Tit visitor (at least I think it's a Coal Tit, wouldn't expect a Willow or Marsh), will try to get a better photo tomorrow, all my feeder tree photos are taken through double glazing :-O
Here's also a picture of one of my Starling flock.
If your wondering what my 'feeder tree' is it's a tree where I hang all my feeders, the tree itself is conveniently in the middle of a hedge. I don't like taking pictures of birds on my feeders for some reason.
