Hey Good stuff all....

CB: Pink foots over head would make my year mate, I was well chuffed to see the 49 Lapwings the other day... and yes I had time to count them as they flew right over the roof of the house :t:

Captain /BW: When they appear you will get a guided tour... and a brew if you so wishB :)

Karpman: Your pictures are coming on really well mate, I think you will find that you keep learning, you know what works and what doesnt, and if they come out crap you press delete...keep snapping away :t: I have just cracked one open too...

That's a beautiful shot Dave - very atmospheric. Like Captaincarot/Bornwild, they're on my would like to see list. Looks like you'll be hosting an outing over your way, lol ;)

Karpman - that's a lovely little chaffy picture. Really like it.

The Seagull/Captaincarot - always great to see a cute Coal Tit. Well captured! They're tricky birds to photograph even on feeders because they zoom in and out and away, lol.

Larry - hope you get the Hairy Woodpecker coming back to visit :t:

Dave, here's to you seeing some day light tomorrow.

Lots of birds today! Got up about 4 hours earlier than usual and when do the birds come? 5 hours after I get up...anyway lots of Starlings, House Sparrows and 'my' Robin and my third Blue Tit ever! No sign of the Coal Tit today, was hoping to get a good photo but alas the sky is 100% clouded and there's no chance.

Catching up

I've had a lot of catching up to do on this thread. Some interesting sightings and some great photos!

Lucky you with the Hairy, Larry. I rarely see them - I think once since I came to Texas nearly 7 years.

Had fun in Costa Rica. Wasn't able to do a birding tour but did a good day tour to Sarapiqui River, Selva Verde reserve and an aerial tram ride through the rainforest canopy. In the end, saw most birds at the University of CR campus in San Jose.

Quite tough birding: lots of the birds were very high in the trees (ow, my neck) or skulking in dense, dark undergrowth. Being able to bird by ear is a necessary skill there, I think. A nice mix of local CR birds and North Am. migrants. Some fantastic animals - huge iguanas, sloth, poisonous frogs, and two types of monkey. (Saw one monkey while doing doing official school work in a garden in San Jose!) Highlight for me was a young anteater messing about in a tree.

Lot of photos to go through and some IDs to confirm. I'll start posting on my blog tomorrow.

Managed an hour of daylight (if thats what you can call it).

Intresting to watch the Song Thrush! It is still foraging under the feeders and around the shingled area where all the leaves have blown to, basically a corner of the garden.

It is still finding lots to eat under the leaves grubs and worms. Its really easy to spot as I can see large leaves being tossed up in the air

At some point I guess it will move to the waterlogged lawn where worms are to be plentifull.

Only other thing to note is the steady increase in Chaffinches, 4 male 3 female

Bfb, Your house is right under one of the main flight lines from the Lancs mosses to the Wash, so sooner or later you should get them on your garden list!! :t:

Bfb/CC/BW If any turn up, we can make it the first NW meeting for BF members. All the meetings i've seen on the meetings/noticeboard threads tend to be at Yorkshire or in Scotland. Maybe we should arrange a meeting at Moore NR or Marbury CP?

Karpman - Your pics are better than mine :t:

CB

PS If we get any Waxwings it will be beers all round :t::t:

While I was at work today, had my first singing Song Thrush of the winter. The clear weather the last two days must have made it think it was spring!! :-O
