jeff don't worry you've only got to be aburning martyr for a week.
you could refuse to do anything at all on christmas day except faff with the camera, it won't help this time but she might remember it next time and give it early
Best of all was a bird we've only had once before, Eastern Phoebe.

No change in my garden, although I think Chaffinches are into double figures. Not all in the garden, some are in what's left of the Blackberry Bush at the back.
But that's not why I posted:
You know how people moan? Like, "I'm not going to work today, I've got a bit of a Cold", or, "I can't be bothered to tidy up today, I've got a headache"? Well watching Wildlife makes me realise just how weak and lazy most Humans are.|=)| (note the smiley)
Last week a new Pigeon joined the flock in the garden; it had an injured, possibly broken, leg. It was in so much pain that it needed to use both wings to support it's weight on the ground (I've seen this before, but usually one wing is used as a crutch, never two). It would almost drag itself to the food, stopping a few times to recover from the effort. Before anyone asks, no I didn't bring it inside or take it to the Vets, as it could fly; I've also seen Pigeons recover from worse without help. Obviously I did favour it, throwing food near so it didn't have to go far.
Anyway, within a few days two wings as a crutch became one. It behaved perfectly normally in every way that mattered. It flew to the food, eating like there's no tomorrow, pecking smaller Pigeons that got there first.
Today it hops faster than some of the other Pigeons can run. It's still only got one useful leg, but I don't need to favour it anymore, as it's quite capable of looking after itself. It even managed to somehow fly into the tree, hop along the branches, and get to the seed trays that are meant for the Collys. It didn't look pathetic doing this, it looked very determined.
It always amazes how other Species just get on with it, whereas we moan.|=)|
There have been 11 Goldfinch, Dunnocks, Sparrows, Blackbirds and the odd Starling too. I threw some extra nuts and seed on top of the shed and the Magpie has been tucking into those. Very nice to watch.
