Been a busy weekend here. No shortage of coal tits, they've been constant all weekend. Long tails didn't show though.

Had 21 species Saturday and another 2 today plus 3 flyovers including several flocks of Lapwing all going West.

Most of the regulars arrived, Around 40 Chaffinch, 20 Tree Sparrows and about a dozen Greenfinch provided most of the Quantity. Fieldfares & Blackbirds also made double figures as did the Starlings.

Bird of the weekend was a Pied Wagtail though. I see them every day at work but rarely in the garden, managed just 4 frames and the battery went flat

Pictures are of a Wren from last week and a Dunnock on the same spot yesterday. The Blackbird is our resident male, He's been with us almost 5 years now, should get his bus pass soon!

Nice Woodpecker Jeff, I knew this one as Jasperpatch has posted some shots of one. Think she's in hibernation now, she called and said it was -22 a couple of days ago.

Dave nice to get the Reed Bunting, I had one in the garden once many years ago.

Thanks for the comments chaps. The CD just happened to blink while posing, and I thought it looked so cute!

I will be out looking to see if anything interesting is flying over tomorrow hopefully, though if it was anything like today, even when the sky had only a few wisps of cloud, the air was still full of snow! Tried to capture the effect but it proved impossible. I'd love to see some geese as I have not seen any this year.

early visitors include a Fieldfare again, it flew in with 2 Redwing. Mistle Thrush for third day running. 2 Redpoll, Rook

Other usual suspects... apart from Coal tits!!

Looks like the bad weather in the UK has brought great birds into your gardens. I've been enjoying reading about them and seeing the photos. Almost makes me wish I were there. Almost - I don't like snow.

Coldish but sunny here now and our yards are staying busy. Yesterday saw the return of an Orange-crowned Warbler. Plus a Blue Jay, only the second or third I've seen in our yards in 6 months, although we used to have several daily and I hear them in surrounding yards every single day.

I wanted to keep practicing with the new camera but it was too cold to sit out. Then I had a brainwave. I spent 30 minutes sitting in the car in the driveway. As the birds are used to the car, they weren't skittish and so I was able to get photos from closer.

Some shots of a Yellow-rumped Warbler came out okay (See attached.) However, most photos I took weren't totally sharp. Not the camera's fault. Just the lens is too long (physically) to hold it really steady and the image stabilization can't compensate fully for my wobbly cold hands. I'll have to get a beanbag to rest the lens on.

CC: Sorry but I can't get a shot of an Acorn Woodpecker, because we don't have them here. Here's one I saw in Big Bend National Park exactly a year ago. Comical-looking birds.

Great pics Karpman, Greeneyes and Lewis (21 species! Impressive).

Jeff - nice idea using the car as a hide. Looking forward to seeing the pics of the Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Just thought I'd add that, like others, I've not had any Coal Tits visit through these few days of snow. I'm hoping they're snuggled up somewhere with that stash of food they've been collecting in previous weeks.

have not had a chance to see what has been going on in my back yard, work is quite mad at the moment, but, this morning I didn't have to go into work till 8am,(I start at 5am as a rule),so I cleaned up the feed table, sorted the water out,and in less than 10 seconds of putting fresh water in the container I had 2 robins after a drink while I still stood within 3 feet of them, and my wife had a chance to see a few birds around the feeders today, great tits, blue tits, robins, blackbirds, one thrush, but she didn't know what one it was,but the birds have had a good feast,as most of the seeds have been eaten.
Two more days of work then off for christmas, have a good christmas all on'ya,and all the best for the new year.....Ian and Sue...

great pics again everyone B :)

the word lifer might turn up in conversation later on.
appologies for dropping the photografic standard right through the floor but it's been half dark and snowing here all day so the light has been terrible.

we had the usual cast of tit species visiting but no long tails today, just great, blue and the odd coal tit.which we havent seen for days.

finally managed to get a bad pic of the song thrush. and we now have about a dozen chaffinch bustling about all over the place. plus 5 or 6 blackbirds who spend most of their time chasing each other round in circles.
the robin is a constant and is frequently joined by one or 2 others with the usual dramas.

and both me and bornwild got a lifer. infact there were 3 of them i won't say what i'll just let you work it out from the pics.

needless to say am very happy.

Hurrah! You lucky chap and chappess :t: (turning a mild shade of green here ;))
I've kept my eye on the garden most of the day but nothing out of the ordinary. I swear the Bramblings get turned into Chaffinches before reaching my garden. I blame the snow, lol. Great record shots CC! (and how's the kitchen floor after the washing machine saga?!)

Jeff, Dave, Karpman....love the photos. :t:
