we were out again all day yesterday, so no garden news, but we did spend 20 minutes listening to a wood pecker drumming and calling in a tree without being able to get a look at it.

fortunately we saw it flying into the tree before we lost it, so thats lesser potted woodpecker on my year list now B :)

Bananafishbones

Incoherently Rambling .....
Not seen the garden all weekend but just got in now and happy to see the pair of Coal Tits are back.... Great tits also.

3 lifers for me yesterday too, Dartford Warbler, Green Woodpecker (at last) and Woodlark, however daft as it may seem the highlight of the day was to see 2 seperate Cuckoos, and got both in flight also.

Looking forward to seeing some afternoons / evenings in the garden this week. The food is being eaten in quantities again so things are picking up.

We have juvenile housesparrows in the roof, havent seen them yet but can hear them when the parents fly in.

I had a lazy day today watching the F1 and the snooker, with a beady eye on the garden, and it was really quiet. Mr & Mrs GSW popped in now and again (separately) and one of the Song Thrushes popped in for a rare spring visit. The Siskins and Redpolls have definitely departed til autumn, but there's a few Goldies still taking the nijers.

The best count of Bullfinches today was 5, incl 3 stunning males. They seem to becoming less bothered by movement in the house now too.

Snap. Only thing is I got a MEGA garden tick this morning - a fine male Stonechat seen from the living room. B :) Technically not in the garden but only just outside in the scrub out back. It soon moved on tho.

Well done on all the ticks.

I have a British Garden Birds calendar and one of the months it shows a pic of a Stonechat. Always thought it was an odd bird to pick for a garden birds calendar??!?

Hey guys just another update from Hertfordshire. Have completed all the gardening we were doing over the weekend and am very pleased! Bark Chippings are layed out and have planted 12 shrubs and a Tree. I'm now giving my Wallet a chance to rest! lol 8-P

Birds have been abundant which I am pleaseed with. I believe they are all getting use to me now with the amount of times I've been out there this weekend. But kept yesterday quiet by being at work all day and I'm going to go out soon, so they will have a bit of peace from us here :p

The Greenfinches have become one of our most frequent visitors which I am thrilled with, as I remember them never venturing in the Garden before. I believe there is at least 4 males and a female. There maybe more than one female, but I have only seen one at the same time. Where as the Males seem to fly in together and squabble with one another at times for their favorite perch.

The Long Tailed Tits have definertly done a disappearing act. I saw them fly in the Conifer on Saturday, but thats all in about a week. Maybe they'll pop in again later on in the breeding season. But I've been watching the Blue Tits and yesterday one of them was feeding the other. Like how the Robin's do. Thought was quite sweet :p

But all seems to be well. The Jay's were in over the weekend, though I haven't seen them today so far. It's a nice surprise whenever I see them, never know when they are going to turn up.

No birdwatching at home over the weekend but a good day out yesterday.

Started with watching a Bald Eagle and two chicks on the nest.

Then saw many migrants (including 11 new year birds) at High Island.

Also at High Island watched the nesting antics of scores/hundreds of Great and Snowy Egrets, Roseate Spoonbills, Double-crested Cormorants and Anhingas.

Its a while since i've been on, It turns out my coal tits were willow tits.
No sign of the LTT's, unless they're feeding when i'm not looking.

Just filled the Sunflower seed up with some new seed, lovely aroma from it, and a few goldfinches turned up. I've seen them a few times before, but i suspect that they are there more than i see them, this time they brought a Siskin with them, first time for one of them in the garden.

One thing that i've noticed lately, is that the House Sparrows are feeding on the nuts and the Sunflower seed quite a lot now, whereas in the winter and last year they just stuck to the mixed seed.

very little in my garden today. A pair of chaffinches ? perhaps unattached . A huge crow who visits daily for the corn. He is very very cautious and sees the slightest movement in the house .
Blackbirds and a solitary starling.
The first coaltit I've seen for a couple of weeks and the ubiquitous jackdaws woodys and collared doves

Oddly enough there were large numbers of sparrows tonight all congregating in a tiny 2 foot squares. ? heres one little group all treading on one anothers toes
Apologies for poor image quality, taken through dirty window glass at 30 feet
