No new birds in our yards but plenty of activity. Our White-winged Doves, Blue Jays and Northern Mockingbirds are around all the time, as is a group of House Finches. Our pair of Downy Woodpeckers visits regularly. A Red-bellied Woodpecker and a Carolina Wren pop in now and then. Northern Cardinals don't appear often at present but we can hear them almost all the time. Carolina Chickadees come constantly to the feeders, taking one seed at a time. They take the seeds into the trees to feed their young, which we can hear but haven't yet seen. A Great Blue Heron has taken to flying over each morning.

We continue to have lots of squirrels. Luckily, these seem to have given up on the bird feeders and are instead eating the million acorns which our oak produced last year. Tree frogs sing whenever it looks like rain and yesterday we had our first gecko of the year on one of our window screens.

At work, there have been several migrants. My favorite was a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, a lovely bird. We've also had two flyovers by a solitary Roseate Spoonbill. Couldn't get any photos of this - but there are plenty on my blog of the ones we saw last weekend.

My Robin was back this morning :t: very pleased to see it on the seed tray for a while. Blue Tits, Blackbirds and House Sparrows all appeared before I made my way to work too.

Dan you're right - nature in the garden really does bring a lot of joy!!

not if the wildlife are flippin moles they don't :C

This morning the grass was cut and edges strimmed and wild bits full of buttercups and daisies . The lilac buds are ready to burst forth and the garden is set for the summer.

I so love this time of year in the garden. :t:

The tail-less blackbird is back and completly oblivious to the gardener or the strimmer :eek!: Even when the strimmer was a metre away he didn't budge ?

Here he is " has anyone seen my tail '?

earleybird, we had a Blackbird like that a couple of years ago, it wasn't around for long though, I always wondered what happened to the tail feathers?

we wondered if it was due to fighting ? maybe it is an hereditary defect? I've never known any bird so oblivious to people and noise except a Robin we have in the lane. He's a cheeky little beggar..

Maybe that's how he lost his tail in the first place ;)

Bananafishbones

Incoherently Rambling .....
Coal tits flying non stop stocking up with sunflower seeds, they flew extremeley close by me on their flypasts as I was working close to the feeders, they were not bothered in the slightest.

evening update:
A Robin spent alot of time colecting bugs today, even stopped off for a rest on my lawn mower (whilst switched off of course!!), anyway a short while ago..... juvenile Robin on the borders with a parent close by:t:

Cant be too long for the House sparrows to be fledging, also the Coal Tits are probably feeding young.

Possibly due to a near miss with a cat? Very unusual anyway. Keep an eye on it & see if it grows back.

A rare visitor this morning to the garden. A male House Sparrow popped in for a snack. Otherwise, its all very quiet. Bullfinches and starlings are the main visitors, with a couple of goldies popping in now and again.

Pretty quiet here over the weekend, though I did get within about 3ft of a Wren while I was filling the feeders and I didn't have the damn camera :C

Just the usual Goldfinch, Blue Tits, Starlings, Blackbirds, House Sparrows and Dunnocks. A couple of Magpies in the trees along with the Collared Doves and Woodpigeons.

Was pleasently surprised to get quite a bit of rain today as the Garden really did need it, first lot of rain all the new shrubs in the garden have gotten. Now the rain has come, everything is going to be so lush everywhere. Be lovely and pleasent going out for walks birding with all the new green :)

The garden has been steady the last couple of days. I didn't see any Goldfinches in my garden two days ago which was unusual, but thankfully they showed up yesterday and today. The Coal Tit hasn't come back mind, so I am going to keep an eye out for him. House Sparrow twice flew into the Garden yesterday, in fact two of them. Both had feathers in their mouth so I assume they are nesting somewhwere at the bottom of the street. I am waiting to see if they make another appearence, this time for some food!

I have been putting out Monkey Nuts, in hoping to feed the Jays, whenever they decided to visit again. The Magpie's haven't been interested in them, they go straight for the Suet Pellets and I have a feeling when they Jays come back thats all they'll want to eat too. :p Oh well, they are there if anyone is hungry. Was hoping to tempt the Rook that has tried to get the Suet a couple of times before too, but I am unsure if he will try that again.

Having mentioned the Jays, I hadn't seen them since last Saturday but before I went to work this morning I saw the pair fly over the Trees accross the road. I don't know if they did ever come in throughout the afternoon, so I'm going to have a look see tomorrow and see if they shall show up then :)

Greenfinches still a good number, 5 in at one point. There are more males than females having in the past counted 4 different males and at least 1 female. The male Chaffinches have been alot more vocal. Actually all Songbirds have been more vocal the last two days. Singing has been going on a while now, but it seems to have picked up even more so. Atleast 6 different birds perched on top of the Conifer to sing which is only used mainly by the Blackbird. Maybe they have all got their nests now.

Altho its nice having the leaves back on the trees, looking lush, it makes birding an awful lot harder!

Had a charm of 10 goldies turn up in the rain yesterday, accompanied by a sole redpoll. I thought I'd seen the last of them.

Been more quieter here today, although haven't always been looking. The Pidgeons and Doves have been in plenty of numbers, along with the Blue and Great Tits, Blackbirds, Robins, Magpie, Chaffinches and Greenfinches. Again I haven't seen an appearence by the Goldfinches in the Garden yet.

Garden's normally pick up again when the babies are around don't they? Or fledged rather.
