Some great photos and lots of good activity in the gardens, I wish I could get a Nuthatch in mine!

I haven't seen much of the garden this weekend but my husband tells me that yesterday lunchtime we had 16 Goldfinch on the floor around the feeder and another 8 on the feeders, I lot of them were juveniles (in fact he rang me just to tell me that he was watching them :-O ). This morning we already had a dozen or so flying in and out and most of them are youngsters, some still demanding to be fed, it looks like the Goldfinch have had a bumper breeding season around here.

The squirrel has just been checking out the garden, he seems to like to explore it all rather than just go straight for the nuts. Coal, Great and Blue Tits, the odd Sparrow and Starling too. The Dunnocks still seem to be missing, I've only seen one in the past week.

I got some good views of Fieldfares, Grey and Pied Wagtails last time I went to Chester Zoo (love it there!). Also got pooped on by a bat so watch out for that :-O

Michael great photo of the LTT's beautiful little birds.

I wanted to stop in a say hi to everyone! I’ve been very busy these last few weeks and I haven’t been able to post as much as I would like! The last couple of day have been a bit slower and I’ve been able to enjoy some backyard birding!

I’m happy to say I had two new species visit the backyard. The first one is pretty common to most, but for some reason I have only seen them a couple times in my area. I had a Blue Jay visit the backyard! Technically he/she stopped by to take a rest on the fence and check the commotion at the feeder. It squawked for a while on the fence and then took off.

I also had an Eastern Phoebe visit yesterday morning. I was watching the birds feed in the morning and a large group of House Sparrows stopped in to feed. There were about 20 of them spread out on the fence and tucked away with them was an Eastern Phoebe.

I’ve also noticed that there is now two Carolina Wrens nesting in our backyard. I think they have made a nest in the pine tree behind our fence. I notice them regularly on the fence hopping around in between the slats.

The humming birds are still feeding and the cardinals are constantly visiting. A Gray Catbird and a couple Black Capped Chickadees are frequent visitors. I’ve also had several Gold Finches and some Mourning Doves visit. I have not seen the Mockingbird or the Brown Thrashers for a few weeks.

Overall it seems like the feeding population is on the rise and I’m still getting new species, so that’s a positive! Plus it’s cooling off and now I can start adding suet on the menu!

Oh, I almost forgot! This morning I was driving out of my subdivision and noticed 4-5 large blackbirds. They were located in the middle of the road. For a second I thought it was some ones cat, but 2-3 of them flew off. They were all pretty big. I’d say they were about the size of a medium cat. I’m thinking they were Ravens, but do Ravens get the big? Or can a Crow grow to that size?

Nothing new in our yards lately, though Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are still much in evidence. Our N Cardinals are looking funny - juveniles haven't got full plumage yet and the adults are molting. This male looked positively embarassed to be so scruffy.
