not a bad guess especially considering there is nothing in the pic to give you a gauge of size.

it does't look like anyone else is going to have a go so here it is with it's mates.

it's a white jackdaw

Didn't I say Chester Zoo was good for the birds! :t:

Dave interesting list, I'm going to have a look at mine see how it compares.

A little quiet in the garden the past couple of days, Goldfinch and the three Tits - Blue, Coal and Great, a Robin and a few Sparrows.

I have the day off tomorrow so may see a little more.

More Greenfinches

I've put the bird table aside and scattered sunflower hearts on the lawn and after a little while in they came Greenfinches, Chaffinches, House Sparrows and a couple of Goldfinches. I've hung a fat ball on the washing line for the Blue and Great tits, they don't like such a mad feeding frenzy. Its hard to get a true photo, I've used a 60mm from an upstairs window hand held, any movement what so ever and their off.

Depends on whether you think it's injured. If you can approach it, without it flying off, then it's sick or injured. If it's just feeding (they have their favourite spots where they feel safe), then just leave it be (and if you get the chance, get pictures).

If it is injured, phone the RSPCA, don't try to catch it yourself unless you've handled Raptors before. Not only can the bird injure you, but you can quite easily injure the bird (their bones easily break, just like other birds).

Update

Just To Update On My Post Of Yesterday. The Bird Of Prey Is Obviously A Buzzard That Hunts In The Same Place. It Was On The Floor Again Hopping Around Looking From Side To Side For Mice Or Voles Etc. I Am Hoping It Will Be There Tomorrow I Am Going To Take Camera With Me To Work And Hope I Can Stop And Take A Pic If I Am Lucky Enough To See It.

Good news that it wasn't an injured Raptor; better still that you've found a Buzzard's favourite spot. I wish you luck with getting some pictures.

At least 2 new Woodpigeon juveniles this afternoon
Some of the juvenile Goldfinch are now just showing tiny signs of the facial coloration

Not seen much of my garden recently, but got plenty of views of other peoples gardens when watching a wryneck which has turned up 10-15 minutes away in marlpool near heanor. An unbelievably tame bird came as close as 4ft! Hoping i get lucky with one of these in my garden!! Anyway here's some pics.

Wow! Amazing photos there. Can't believe someone's got a Wryneck in there garden. Very unusual.

Dave[/B]?

Well it had to happen, this juvenile has been in the garden for the last 2 hours. It caught one of the Feral Pigeons :gn:

Incredible thing to see, what a bird:t:

Dave

Chris I have added another pic, I still think it looks more of a young bird... this has alot more brown on the upperparts than the female I often see.

Mmmm see post #4862 of the juvenile I posted, I guess this isnt the same bird isit, maybe just a little older and maybe a little wiser..... or maybe not!
This one does still look a little dark for an adult

Well done, Dave, I knew you'd get a pic of one with prey at some point. And yes, it's an amazing thing to see. You have mixed emotions; sort of wonder, excitement, and guilt. The worst thing is that any bird Starling size or above, is eaten alive, smaller birds are mostly killed by the strike or by the Talons. So it can be quite hard to watch, especially as a Colly or Pigeon will be alive and being eaten for at least 40 minutes.

BTW, what makes you say "juvenile"? From this picture it looks like an adult female.
