Bit of a finch fest this morning on the bird table with greenfinch, bullfinch, goldfinch and brambling. Best of all though was a siskin and there's a short film of the bird here

I'm always struck by how small they are, certainly compared to brambling, but even goldfinch. Not such a common bird in our garden, but a little more frequent since Christmas.

No Chaffinch? That's all you need for the full set! :t:

Indeed, just forgot to list them! I wonder what the list of finches in UK gardens is? I saw some photos of linnet on nyger seed recently. Then there's redpoll. And of course reed bunting. Yellowhammer too. Plus rarities? I know of people down here who's gardens are visited by cirl bunting. But what else?

The goldfinches are back, feeding at first full light on sunflower hearts. They're almost getting blown off the feeders again today... blustery and rainy!

Hello everybody! Goodness it seems ages since I dropped by this thread! I havn't really been all that well, and I have just not been able to face the forum, plus I have started a photographic project for the year also.
Still been keeping up with the feeders though, not much new, apart from Bullfinches, between 2-4 birds had a little spell of visiting. Still no sign of my Willow Tits, which seems rather odd. But all the regular visitors in good numbers, which are not lining up patiently for the feeders:-O
My pesky squirrel has also been at it again, it has literally managed to unscrew a feeding port! Leaving the bottom of the feeder on the floor! The cheeky little ******. So hope everyone is ok, will try and pop by more often, now I'm feeling a little better. B :)

Miserable looking day here too weather wise, especially after a nice Spring day like yesterday. Strong winds and light rain meant everything being alot quieter. But most regulars was spotted:

Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Brambling, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Dunncok, Robin, Blackbird, Starling, Magpie, Woodpidgeon, Starling, Collard Dove

Plenty of Gulls, Rooks, Carrion Crows flying around the neighbourhood as well as the Pied Wagtail, whom I am still waiting to make his return back inside the garden!

Sunflower Hearts are the key IMO for attracting a wide range of birds. Just about all garden birds will eat them. If you've got the hearts thats good enough, if you add a couple of different foods for variety also, you got the best chances of attracting the widest range of bird. Just have to wait then until they are in the area :)

I have got out at the moment hearts, wild mixed, peanuts and fat balls along with a tray and water....The thing is for example i have never seen chaffinches in my area but do you think they could still come to my feeders one day?
