Good work Eb, Jeff and Roger for still providing some images for the thread... I will join in soon!

Still miserable weather and now desperatly looking forward to the family holiday in Turkey in about 3 weeks time. looking forward to blue skys and Warblers in the garden.

**also note** ibird for iPad and iPhone and droid is on sale for 2.99. Regularly 29.99

Do they have a UK version I wonder ? I'll have a look later.

I recently downloaded 'Birds of UK ' to my Galaxy S2 which is quite good. It includes bird calls which my cats find very interesting :-O

Siskin young eh CC ? :t: don't suppose you managed a piccy or two ?

We haven't seen any of our Goldfinch young yet although a rather plump smug young Robin is making himself at home.
I think we lost all our blackbird eggs and fledglings to a pair of magpies this year again. They seem to know just where the nests are.

well I hope that you will provide us with lots of pictures of wonderful sunshine bfb to lift the miserable wet gloom we're in in the UK at present. I normally only feel the effects of SAD in winter months :-C

Was glad for all the info on cost savings.... Also, glad to see similar costs. Apparently back yard birding is an expensive hobby. To allow the bigger birds to eat I wire wooden dowels to the feeders, especially the suet ones. This even gets some ground feeders eating from the feeders. Gonna allow the spilled seeds to grow for a bit to see what happens. Not sure I can buy in bulk all our stores just sell in 40 and 50 pound bags. Maybe I'll see if can get a multi bag discount. Especially in winter when my feeders can literally be emptied in a day, I can fill them and walk in look out and have 50 birds eating away. I have read about making my own suet but that cost is relatively low. Does the honey and flour method help with waste or attract more birds?

No new young birds this weekend but a new yard bird - and what a bird! My wife called me away from the Wimbeldon match to see a female Pileated Woodpecker on a snag in the next door yard. Then a male joined her. Magic!

Morning everyone :t:

Not been about much lately, partly busy, partly lazy !!

Fully settled in the new house in East Kilbride now, and I think we have the town population of house sparrows in the garden. Anything up to 30 at a time, including the youngsters that are learning feeder skills.

Also have an adult starling bringing 3 youngsters over the weekend, very civil for starlings, waiting their turn to be fed etc 8-P

However, the big news is that after 3 months, there is a Great Spotted Woodpecker in the garden B :)

First saw him briefly onThursday night, trying to get to the last half dozen or so peanuts that were left.

Came back last night, and spent a good 15 minutes swicthing between the peanuts and suet block. Hopefully become a regular, but needless to say I'm well chuffed !!

Now, what do I wish for next in the garden ? Bullfinches would be nice.........
