just looked out into the garden and saw for the first time for a while a group of birds on the niger feeder and thought Redpoll.....;. slightly disappointed to see 7 Goldfinch. I say it tongue in cheek as of course they are always lovely to see, just expecting the Redpolls anytime now. Another few weeks and I will put the second feeder up.

My Skin-polls arrived on the 10/11th respectively last year ''D-a-r-n Souf'', and like you, I'm awaiting to put the ''jumbo'' feeder up.

Certainly great to see during the grey Winter months. :t:

15 species in the garden yesterday.

Starlings and house sparrows in the usual 20+ numbers, along with :
Blue tit
Great tit
Coal tit
Greenfinch
Goldfinch
Dunnock
Robin
Blackbird
Wood pigeon
Collared dove
Wren
Magpie
Goldcrest

Not nearly as busy today, constant heavy rain seems to be the main culprit.

Finally starting to get some action in our yards after 6-7 weeks of quiet. Unfortunately, most of the action is House Sparrows: 35 at one point yesterday. The only other visitors were two Carolina Chickadees, a White-winged Dove, an Orange-crowned Warbler, and a Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

A major cold front is forecast for tomorrow, so things might pick up soon.

/\ Good results there fellas.

I was trying hard to get on with some work today but the birds, or rather one bird, had other ideas. Pheasants, especially males, seem easily tamed. I don't encourage this at all, e.g. the Pheasant will run towards me when I step outside with food but I wait until he hops over the wall before I put food out for him, as I don't want him to think people are safe to approach for obvious reasons. He isn't in the least shy though, he'll sit in my garden and bark for food and if I try to ignore him like I did today he got up at eye level to make sure I couldn't miss him:

When I was into aviculture many years ago a friend had a Silver Pheasant in his aviary.

It was a holy terror and always launched a fierce attack (protecting his females?) when he went into the flight area. It caused him so much injury that he started carrying a broom to fend it off whenever he went in thare.

I can believe that. This one doesn't seem bothered about the females which follow him around, he's more concerned with food!

yesterdays visitor took out a pigeon in mid air and took it down into next doors garden (pity it was a woodpigeon as 5 minutes before I had 15 Ferals......)

anyway its not often that I get the female.

Today the male has been twice but is daft as a brush and scares the birds off rather than catches them.

We had a Tufted Titmouse join the regulars this morning at our backyard bird feeders: House Sparrow, European Starling, American Goldfinch, White-breasted Nuthatch, Black-capped Chickadee, Downy & Red-bellied Woodpeckers, House Finch and Dark-eyed Junco.

Two days ago we had a Carolina Wren instead of the titmouse hanging out with the above regulars.
