Very busy at the bird feeder today! (4 Viewers)

I have 4 turkey vultures visiting yesterday and today. My wife first mistook them for wild turkeys which have also been on the property of late. The turkey vultures are native to California but the turkeys were introduced by some misguided fools in the fish and game department to provide recreation for hunters. Big problem is that when they are destroying the plants in yard in town it is not legal to hunt them.

Would a greenfinch also take nyger? Is there anything they’re particularly fond of?

Does it follow that if goldfinch are in the area greenfinch are too?

I’ve got long tailed tits and goldcrests in the trees at the end of the road id love to entice into my garden.
There's a chance of greenfinch if you have goldies but not a guarantee. We get the occasional one or two sometimes in amongst the 20 odd goldfinch that visit daily.

The greenfinch prefer sunflower hearts and the goldfinch will happily eat those as well. Good luck (y)

The goldfinches I get seem to be quite fussy 😅 I had sunflower hearts out for quite a while and they never turned up! Was only when I put nyger out they came.

That was in the summer months though so maybe it will be different in autumn/winter.

Getting a lot more activity in the garden now. Also moved an old hanging tray feeder and filling it daily. It’s getting a lot of birds as it is easy for them to feed on. Also has a lot of squirrels but I’m only putting cheaper seed on so I don’t mind so much, and it keeps them off the other feeders. Over the last couple of weeks we’ve had a pair of Blackcaps, but I was surprised today to see a third Blackcap. Never seen three together so happy about that!

-4 to start the morning, bobble hat needed to put out the feeders 😂

Carabiner clips that I hang the feeders from were frozen solid, wish I'd worn gloves as well !

3 very impatient blue tits flitting back and forward, telling me in no uncertain terms to hurry the 'F' up and make with breakfast. Robin on usual garden patrol, with 5 chaffinch and 4 goldfinch having landed since I came back in.

Let's see if anything else comes to visit today.....

Put a fat ball feeder up just before Christma. So far a jackdaw, Magpie, GS woodpecker and this little beauty turned up today for a feed from it.

Blackcap singing today (unless I’m mistaken)

We’ve had decent numbers of Bramblings for the last 3 years, but still not seen one this year.

The birds (and squirrels) are certainly well fed in our garden 🤣

Also I have a friendly Robin that greets me every morning. I’m sure it will feed from my hand one day!
