Hi, CC.

I looked for Firecrests in Barcelona on my last visit, two years ago, and I was pretty sure I spotted one in Parque de Guell - but not sure enough to add it to my list. This time I got several views of one bird. As it happens, it was only a few yards away from the place I thought I saw one two years ago. Probably the same bird.

Jeff

if you're in barcelona don't foget to keep one eye on the sky for vultures and eagles a well as the bushes for little brown blobs half buried in a bush.

so far this morning i'v heard a magpie cackling and seen a robin on the feeding tray.

I love hearing the magpies, we have quite a few here and yesterday I looked out my front window to see at least nine sitting at the top of the silver birches across the road. They were having a bit of a quarrel and there was a lot of cackling, tail flicking and flying to and fro. Very nice. |:D|

The Sparrowhawk made another appearance yesterday morning too, flying through the garden and landing on the fence at the bottom end for a minute before zooming off again. :t:

Jeff, your seeing some great birds over there, definitely looking forward to your photos!

Dave some great shots as usual from you :t: Aren't Wren's just beautiful?

It's been pretty quiet here today. Had a Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, a couple of Dunnocks, Starlings and House Sparrows. The Collared Doves have been in the trees but haven't ventured into the garden. The Magpie however made one of his rare appearances on the seed tray and had a few peanuts.

I did disturb a squirrel this morning when I opened the curtains and discovered damage to one of my feeders when I went out to refill later. I'm guessing it was from the squirrel :eek!:

lost a couple of feeders to squirrels, they munched through the plastic making seed fall out, a very happy few squirrels! Cheeky so and sos have even tried to chew through the metal wired ones!
Anyway, very happy again as I saw BOTH of my willow tits, but no camera to hand as i was watching from my bedroom when i got a couple of minutes.
Also about 10 chaffinches some feeding and a few in the trees too, 6 great tits, 8 blue tits, robin, wren, 4 dunnocks, 4 collared doves. Been a very lousy day weather wise here, sonot too bad and finished daylight of with the twitterings of long tailed tits flying through.

Michael your garden has been busy today, very nice to get two Willow Tits, it's a bird i've never seen.

I remember a squirrel destroying the neighbours feeder a couple of years ago but until now we've never had a problem. Can't quite believe it's managed to chew in that spot - wish i'd seen the acrobatics it must have been doing to chew there!

My main problem so far is that in Europe you have an awful lot of LBJs - and they mostly seem to be shy and to skulk around in bushes where you can't see them easily. Our Texas birds are generally much more obliging!

Jeff

Jeff,

If you have the time just sit and wait. The LBJs will eventually show themselves.

Excellent pics as ususual Dave!! :t::t:

Saw a Marsh Tit in the garden today, first for at least ten years. A juvenile Brambling was also the first for this Winter period. Roger

Roger,

Well done on Marsh Tit and Brambling. Both quality garden birds. A few Bramblings have arrived across the country in the last week or so.

Blimey, some cracking action going on by the sound of it! Willow Tits, Marsh Tits, Bramblings all superb birds to see, I've not seen any of those! :t:

Nice shots from Dave too, and interesting to see Pam's squirrel damage too.

Nothing much new here although a Greenfinch made a visit this afternoon (haven't seen one for quite some time!) and the second Robin appeared too, but the broken-leg resident Robin wasn't around at the time so she got away with the incursion. ;) The little flock of Tits came to the feeders a few times, a pair of Great Tits and a few Blue Tits with them. In the afternoon when out in the garden one Great Tit appeared and was moving around the trees calling away lots so I tried whistling teacher, teacher (very badly, I can't whistle!) and it came to the tree near me and responded! Maybe I can get a job as a Tit Whisperer. 3:)

Good stuff everyone & thanks for the nice comments.
I have a good feeling about the Bramblings this year, if only because of the numbers of chaffinches coming now.

Also looking forward to playing the ID game with Jeffs pics!

My garden was pretty busy today, Coal & Great tits doing the most eating, Pigeons the most spilling, Starlings the most Squabbling, Song Thrush (only 1 today) doing the most leaf tossing.

Gardens are fun places to be when there are birds around :t:

Dave

Pics show:
Bumblefoot chaffy, gettinga round without a care in the world and eating for England :t:

Leaf tossing Song Thrush (you have to look closely for the flying leaves)

Cute Great tit on my tree face :-O

The are fun to watch Dave, have put extra peanuts out so hopefully he'll leave the feeder alone!

Fingers crossed for Bramblings and Siskins in my garden this winter - I can dream can't I?:-C

And why not Pam o:D

Just been topping up the feeders and the Coal tits have carried on as usual, even when I was within 3 feet of it :t:

Wren and Song thrush again, this brings out the Blackbirds to protect their teritory.

I keep looking at the ever growing Chaffinch population and looking for a Brambling ;)

November 12th at our feeders my wife and I enjoyed watching a Canada Goose (flyover), Red-bellied and Downy Woodpeckers, Blue Jays, Black-capped Chickadees, Red-breasted and White-breasted Nuthatches, a Carolina Wren, about a dozen flyover American Robins, Dark-eyed Juncos (aka. "Snow Birds"), several Northern Cardinals, a very large flock of Red-winged Blackbirds (also flying over the yard), American Goldfinches and House Sparrows.

We are hoping for some of the winter finches to arrive before to long! Also, we still have yet to see the Winter Wren. We usually see this bird in our yard about this time of the year!
