Mar 12, Bunker Trail, Panti Forest, Malaysia

A long weekend trip across the causeway into Malaysia started with an early morning bus trip from Singapore to pick up a hire car in Johor Bahru. The logistics out of the way it was the short drive past Kota Tingi for some birding for me and general outdoors for family.

A generally overcast day with threatening clouds which eventually produced steady rain meant dark conditions unfavourable for photography but still plenty of birds in general but short on babblers. The rain eventually cleared late in the day hence photos of the last two new birds for the year.

Mammal highlight was a Lesser Mousedeer along a leech infested trail- my leech bite count for the day 7, number seen uncountable unless done by the square metre!

We arrived at Parit Jawa at low tide with no water in the bay other than the channel used by the fishing the boats. There were however plenty of birds still within sight along the edges of the channel. The highlight here are the ever present Lesser Adjutants.

Mar 19, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Singapore

Whilst we were in Malaysia last weekend a male and female White-throated Rock Thrush, a rare passage migrant, had been reported on the 'summit' of Bukit Timah. With reports saying the female was still present I had a morning to try and see my 300th Singapore bird - as it turned out having walked up and finding the 1/2 dozen photographers lined up it was less than a minute before she flew in.

A day trip across the causeway to Panti Forest with the morning on Bunker Trail and the afternoon hiking the 270 milestone trail.
