Victory FL discontinued? (1 Viewer)

Unfortunately, for my situation, Zeiss had changed the coating at some late point. (I don't mean the Lotutec addition.) So since then, the coating has a reddish-orange shine that can irritate when illuminated from behind the observer. It's particularly a problem when wearing eyeglasses, I think. It is much more comfortable with the violet version they had before. I still hope to find a very good (only slightly used) model. Would not need Lotutec.
I bought one of the late ones and has a violet not red coating.

Lucky you! Must have been sitting on a shelf for a while. I had tried to get one of the demo models (instead of my new one) which had the older version, but no luck. Maybe they were already promised to someone!

Well, mine look like below. Is this red or purple? In any case they work great for me. If you find them objectionable, I highly recommend then the Leica UV 8x32 HD+. Compared to the FL, they are a bit slimmer, a bit more contrasty, a bit sharper and with easier eye placement, a tiny bit more chromatic aberrations off center, a vastly better diopter mechanism, a bit darker in the low light at the end of the day, a bit more resistant to flare. I think overall I might like the Leica ... a bit better :) !!

I hope to find a late-model FL 8x32 one day. Is eye placement finicky?
Not for me either. In fact without going to get them now to remind myself, I'm not sure how I place them — they just work as naturally as a fork or spoon, without any special thought. And you get a good wide view without fuss (I don't wear glasses with bins but do for most other things). I have come from just liking them when I first had them to preferring them to my other 32s out in the field, ending up with a black one from Lee and a green special edition and each seems to me to be in perfect adjustment.

It's a while since you posted, Foss. Have you been out and found one? It would be interesting to hear your findings if so.

If not, good luck in the search. Somebody's bound to have a good one and want to change to an SF or other newer model!

Here are two comparative pictures of my FLs, with the 8x32 and its reddish coating at the top. The bottom one is a 8x42 model with earlier purplish coating that comes without irritating me at times.

The red variant can show a much more powerful glow at the rims, however, as shown here. This is when the light comes from behind the observer. And that is when I complain. So it's by no means a constant problem. (One needs to click at the thumbnail picture to open it!)
