We now enjoy them often every spring through fall at the lake but I've never heard them crackle there either. My wife grew up in northern Manitoba and I just asked if she's ever heard them, and she said sometimes and other people she knew had heard them as well. Searching the internet I can find one widely reported and seemingly credible scientific study done by Aalto University in Finland which claimed to have recorded them but unexpectedly no others either confirming or refuting they make sounds. Interesting topic.</p></blockquote><p></p>
