Visit to Negril, West Coast (1 Viewer)

We are visiting Negril on the west coast of Jamaica in September, can anyone suggest where to go birding and the best way, most economical and safe way to get about as we would like to get out and about to see some of the endemics Jamaica has to offer.
Thanks

Hi Deb, we found that seeing all the endemics on your own isn't that hard in a week or so, if you hire a small 2WD car. Getting around without your own car would be very hard, unless you hired a car with a driver/taxis, which would be expensive. A couple of really good sites, eg Rocklands and Windsor Caves are in the west side of the island, but if you want the higher elevation stuff and Black-billed Streamertail, you have to head out East to the Blue Mountains and beyond.

My trip report from last year's here: http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=321169 We did it as a couple with a toddler, felt safe, and loved it, but spent pretty much all our time away from main tourist areas.

Have fun,

Larry
