Frank, I have no idea why they initiated the Fury in 6.5x32. I have an idea they did it with the Raptor for some marketing leverage over their chief competitor in the Leupold Yosemite. The Yosemite has a decent reputation now. What I think the philosophy is is that they can advertise the 6.5x Raptor will show a bit bigger image with the extra magnification and that there is more light with the 32mm objective. That said, I wonder why they didn't hit a 7x35 format with the Raptor. "Vortex proudly reintroduces a classic configuration....". Maybe it would have been just a bit bigger than they wanted. Or just a bit more work on the design than they were willing to do, hence 6.5x Kevin, Doing your 30* tilt shows that the flare you describe is there in both the Yosemite and the Raven, but it is much less pronounced and harder to see initially with the Raven. The Raven does not have the tendency to flare out nearly as much as the Yosemite when panning under the sun either. There is a little tendency in the Yosemite to have the blackout issue, but apparently not with the Raven.
