Photo taken 1 week ago in freshwater reservoir in Pentland Hills, Scottish Borders.

I'm sure this is very simple and maybe I'm over thinking things here. But trying to id this wader. I'm thinking sandpiper but web is suggesting they don't have orange beaks and the photo'd one does seem to.

Thoughts?

Common Sandpiper; the white “hook” in front of the wing is diagnostic (eliminating all other species except Spotted, which is a vagrant from North America).

For me, the white "hook" or indent is the most reliable feature, recognisable even at a fair distance away, as white tends to stand out.
