I got blackouts and flare/glare regardless of how i tried to hold them or adjust them. They were uncomfortable. My wife did not have this issue and she used them well. One year later i saw on the net a company in England had replacement cups for the FL, of a different shape, with smaller diameter and rounded edges. I ordered, replaced them, and the glass became an instant success for me, i still use it from October to December almost exclusively. Same with the SV EL. Before the focuser was re-adjusted, it was cranky, uneven, etc. I don't think i would have ever liked the binoculars with that focuser. Since adjustment, it's my favorite for birding. I loved the view and the handhold of the Nikon SE 8x32, and have owned a pair for a year. I never could get used to it's sluggish focus and weird eye cups and eye pieces which caused kidney shaped black spots. 6130rm, send the glass to Zeiss and describe your problem, ask them to check everything. If that doesn't solve your problem, you have a $2,000 problem and you can solve it wisely by trying carefully different binoculars. For about ten years i must have pestered every birder i ever met, to try their glass. Over 200 of them, for sure.</blockquote>
