Message: <blockquote data-quote="ceasar" data-source="post: 3199095" data-attributes="member: 26155">Dennis,All that may be theoretically true but you are not likely to notice it in the heat of the moment.If you want to compare DOF between two 8 power binoculars (roof and/or porro) you have to do it under practical birding conditions such as following birds through tree foliage 20 to 40 feet away.  All things being equal I would bet that you won't be able to determine which one has the best DOF under these circumstances.  Beyond that distance,  the closer you get to infinity it will make even less difference.  You probably won't be able to see any difference in DOF between a 8x30 Habicht Porro and a 8x32 Swarovision doing this.  You will notice other things like a binoculars ease of focusing which plays a critical role in this and you may not like the 8x30 Habicht's reputed stiff focus wheel.    When I say "all things being equal" I also mean that they both have similar FOVs.  This throws the 8x30 EII out of the mix because its FOV is so much wider than any other 8x30/32 that you will be able to follow the birds better.If you really want to see the differences in DOF in these circumstances compare an 8x42 with a 7x42, roofs or porros or both; you won't have any problem seeing the differences in DOF.  I can see it all the time in my back yard.Bob</blockquote>
