So while the world slept (well in my home) I had a leisurely stroll in the countryside!A Green Woodpecker was to be heard yaffling for most of my time spent wandering around the vegetation but not seen. Birds seen were: Swallows, House Martins, Goldfinch with youngsters, Dunnock, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff (heard), Great and Blue Tits, Magpie, Woodpigeons (plenty), Heron, Sparrowhawk and Buzzard. I only saw 2 Dragonflies that whizzed past me, I did not walk down to the Pools in the 2 hours that I was there as there were so many butterflies to see that my time was taken enjoying the sight of them. Perhaps I will venture to the Pools sometime next week and see what is about.My time spent watching the butterflies was a lovely start to the day and very refreshing.Pic 2 is a Gatekeeper not a Meadow brown as labelled.
