I was off work Thursday & Friday and didn't have the tv on at all in that time and was shocked to see what has happened to Cumbria when I got in to work this morning! :eek!::-C

Our friend in Glenridding said it was ''a bit damp'' but when I saw the photos in the newspapers and, once I got home, the pics G. had sent Neil via email of the steamer pierhouse...well, I'm just speechless!!!! :eek!:

I'll put some pics up once Neil sends them to my email address.

Today started off bright but with a nip in the air. By midday it was starting to rain and getting very dark and, at times, was very windy and heavy, but it's not too bad now. Damp and chilly - certainly NOTHING like some of the conditions other parts of the UK have experienced!!! :eek!: We seem to have our own little climate in this part of north Northumberland these days :smoke:

Hi Gill

I know of someone in another Forum I am on, who lives in Cumbria. He is finding it hard going at the moment. He has posted a few pictures of the amount of water that is around the town centre and it is something else to behold. The water level reaching half way up the shop windows. That is some water to deal with.
Just to see boats rescuing people is something else. Even the animal rescue people are out in force. :eek!:

Simply to go to the local shops in the town centre is a huge issue at the moment. Sainbury's is open but to who, and what shoppers - if they are around.

Apparently a Policeman was washed of a bridge, and has not been seen since. A body has been found. :-C
Another incident involving another bridge built in the 18th century is wobbling around now.
So much for listed historical buildings not coping with deluge of water. :eek!:

Not so good in more ways than one.

Look forward to seeing your pictures, Gill.

My heartfelt sympathy for anyone living in the area who is water bound at the moment. :-C

Regards
Kathy

We've had 25mm (1" in old money) of rain since this morning and our local rivers are on either flood watch or flood warning. Should be back down again by the morning though.

Really does look pretty awful in Cumbria. They're checking all the bridges individually according to the BBC news, looks like there are a number washed away or damaged as well as that one the poor policeman was on. |8(|

Comparatively it's been fine here. We had some heavy rain overnight and then the morning was grey but bright, albeit very windy. Took a walk along the river to the local farm (hoping to see some Stonechats again but didn't), saw a big group of gulls on the fields which were mostly Black-headed, but there were quite a few Common Gulls amongst them (which I haven't seen before!) so that was good. Got home after popping in the shops on the way back and literally two minutes later it absolutely chucked it down with rain... timed that well!

My Dad didn't - apparently he was over his allotment at the time and hadn't taken a coat! D'oh!

The situation in Cumbria is dreadful, Fozzy.

We have had heavy hail showers, I knew we wouldn't get away with a fine afternoon.

Nice rainbow, Kits. Where is the end in relation to your house?!!!!

Fozzy....you should tell your Dad this pearl of wisdom that my OH always uses...you should take your coat when it's fine and please yourself when it's wet!

It's quite sunny this morning but with a few couds blowing over which look like they could be full of rain. I'm stuck in work 9 - 5.30 today so won't be out today :smoke:

Last night was something else though....VERY strong gales which were howling around this flat and, when I spoke to Neil at 11pm, the cabin where he was on nightshift was wobbling around in the wind! :eek!:

I've transferred thse Cumbria pics to my photobucket account so will transfer them onto here this evening :t: So far I think there's about 18 bridges closed, numerous roads and our friend in Glenridding is saying the roads are still pretty bad alongside Ullswater :eek!:

Yesterday (sunday) was a corker of a sunday morning with plenty of sunshine, that changed to thoroughly wet and miserable in the afternooon. Today is sunny again, but I reckon it will rain this afternoon.

He never listens, my mum tries to tell him but he won't be told. |:D|

Rain & very windy in Taunton today. It cleared up a bit in the afternoon, but there was still a very strong wind. Here it was sunny with a few showers.

Clear blue skies & sun this morning but the wind seems to be getting rather gusty. Working 9 - 5.30pm again so looking forward to my day off tomorrow as I NEED to get outdoors!!!

Poor Neil came home from nightshift all aches and shivers.....I think it's the dreaded Man-Flu :eek!::eek!::eek!: If worst comes to worst I'll leave him in front of the tv with a load of dvd's tomorrow whilst I pop out for a few hours! ;) :-O
