Wedge-tailed Eagles and The Power Graph (1 Viewer)

What began as a bit of a look at Wedge-tailed Eagles morphed into a think about what limits the size and weight of eagles and birds in general by looking at the power required vs airspeed relationship. How behaviour and geographic range maybe limited in large birds such as albatross. The power vs airspeed graph is used by vertical take-off aircraft, mostly helicopters and is very influential in their design, how they are flown, how and where the aviations authorities allow them to be used, every take-off and landing, multi-engine performance calculations, flight in cloud over terrain and is relevant for both civil and military operations. The same graph applies to birds as well. It may be even influential in Bergmann's rule.

The whole caboodle can be found on https://www.ararelitus.com/birds-1 for those who like eagles as I do.
