C'est pas ma faute, je suis anglais.
thank you everybody - always a source of inspiration here from you all - after not doing too much painting recently (fed up with illustration and the whole tax side of it which is impossible to understand in France) I've been painting all afternoon and evening (around work of course!)

Ulrike, the techniques used are many and varied - the vulture is watercolour but the rest are a mixture of acrylic, watercolour, pencil crayons, wax crayons, water soluble oil pastel, collage and perhaps a drop of wine or two that got spilled.

not easy to find right words for the overall avalanche cornucopia

so picking on faves there's the vertical towers of clouds behind the L S Eagle like he's dropping from the roof of a cathedral and the woodchat- that one on the big leaves has real I-am-special to him

Speechless...wow!

I think it's a good thing you and Tim live in different countries. I think if you two were in close proximity, the resulting combination of artistic energies and abilities would disrupt the earth's magnetic field or something. Sheeesh, awestruck.

yes me too for this piece what a view and feel it gives of the life of that one.

a more complete and varied approach to the art of the bird I'm sure can't be found than this.

Going for Gold
One day maybe I'll be qualified to comment on work like this! The winners, for my rather philistine pallate, are the Collared Fly's (my mind boggles over how you're suppose to paint heavy foliage like this), the lesser spot, and the resting griff. My first daubings with a brush are done with the trepidation of the first time brain surgeon going in with the scalpel! These seem to be done completely opposite!

thank you everyone - I'm going to have a full painting day tomorrow I think, caution to the wind and just let the creative juices flow (rather than worry about what barbed wire should look like and the extent of a red-backed shrike's mask like today!)

having a little inspired moment - strange that I either go through spurts of field sketching or studio work, but never manage to balance the two. Catching up on a nice encounter with stone curlews in May, and one of my 'colleague' shrikes - next to where I work.

and now using gin..............

the griffon vulture was done sober, the reptiles (green lizard and aesculapian snake) were the last - and not sober.

Before Tim gets the chance ;) I may have imagined the existence of this diminutive woodpecker, blame the gin.

Seriously..what can I say. Ive been away a week and I come back to a flood of the most outstanding work I've seen in an age. This is setting the bar at the very highest of levels.

I do hope you know how good these are Nick. A total pleasure to view these latest pieces, despite the nausea I experienced at times;)
