Ooh !! that hurt. It is BF legend the story behind that one & the amount of miles I did & still missed it. Shugborough then back to Cov, then a jaunt to Yorkshire the same day followed by a trip to Peterculter the following Friday night, Saturday morning.

Boy, it still hurts.:-O:-O

I guess that’s why I am member of the "Bumbling Bears"!! Despite living in Warwickshire two of us Bears decided to play it cool and go for it the next day (the other two bears on their way to another trip to Oman) Admittedly I thought the initial report was a wind up due to the date. So we managed to dip the bird the next day but to our credit we were part of a few birders that checked nearby flooded river sections to try to re-locate it. Then the message came out it was in Yorkshire so we headed off there but never actually made it to the site (pager report of a bus and loads of birders cars blocking minor road up) but again we searched nearby pools and lakes to try to re-locate it. The final blow came when after waiting for "blizzard conditions" to subside in Scotland managed to go for it the day it had flown off!! (its a very long way back home in a quiet van!!!)
Gutted? Yes but hey thats birding and you never know whats round the next corner, if all the birds were easy to get we would have one boring hobby akin to trainspotting.
