Thanks for the ID John and thanks for the advice Jeff :t:

Pretty quiet at Marsh Lane this morning mind you I said that last Sunday and a Grey Phalarope and a Red-crested Pochard turned up later.

No decent birds to take pics of so I had a go at spider's webs.

Max

Hmmm is it worth me risking the drive after a massive drinking session last night to go for the Sabines gull in Stoke.....

They'll be others around wont there..

Not exactly local, but I drove down the M40 yesterday for another go at the local attractions over the Chilterns. 3rd time lucky, as a local pointed me in the direction of a good spot for them. B :)

Awesome birds, and so many! I just wish they didn't have the knack of flying into the sunshine...

Also popped into BM on the way back to see if the kingfishers would play ball. They did, albeit somewhat briefly.

Weather is back to normal today, I see...

Upton Warren in the rain

Upton Warren this morning...on the Flashes at least 8 Green Sandpipers, 2 Common Sandpiper, 7 Snipe, 2 Shelduck, Teal, Shoveler, Gadwall, Kingfisher and Buzzard. The Little Owl was back on the barn roof and we saw a Stock Dove narrowly escape the Peregrine's clutches, in fact it was that close that the Peregrine grazed the feathers on the dove's back!

On to the Moors Pool where a Black Tern was present. Sadly we missed the Arctic Tern by about half an hour. One Wigeon was noted and another Kingfisher.

Upton Warren in the fog!!!!

You were so lucky, kay! Look what the weather was like at 8.00am this morning at the Flashes!! Some great spiders webs about though...in fact loads and loads of them!

Had a good chat with Dean Powell in the 'Spider hide' at the Moors! Good to see you again, Dean! Hope you got the Marsh Harrier!;)

I went down to Slimbridge today. As I passed UW I wondered whether the fog might have brought something decent down. Seems it didn't.

Still, autumn passage seems to have shifted up a notch so might not be too long before we get a mega in the Midlands.

Oh dear Pam! When we got there there was still some fog around the tops of the masts, but luckily visability was ok at the flashes.

Must have just missed you and Dean :-C

Anything good at Slimbridge Reg?

Well, there was no sign of the Kentish Plover in case anyone was wondering. Plenty of other good birds. Fear not ... a comprehensive blog entry will follow in due course!

Tempted to do a spot of butterflying in the Wyre tomorrow, but weather doesn't look brilliant again.

Dean was busy over the weekend then, as I bumped into him at BM in the Carlton Hide, though I hadn't spotted him come in! Too busy watching out for snipes and kingies! :-O

Well I had a good weekend at Upton Warren this weekend.

On the Saturday I saw my first Grey Plover at around 7am on the Moors. Having not seen one before I tipped a couple of guys off at the Flashes and around a couple of hours later after comming back from the Flashes they found it within about 10 minutes confirming it was what I had been 99% sure of. So that was a good morning for me. I left the Moors at 10.30 and it was still there, but no further sightings in the log from after then.

The Sunday, well 7am it was very misty but by 8am it was a pea souper on the Moors, but as Pam-m said spiders were in abundance on all the pathways. I went over to the Flashes and got to see the Little Owl which is something I haven't seen before at Upton Warren (mainly as I spend most of my time at the Moors part of the reserve), so another good visit for me.

Have never been to Upton Warren, but would love to see the Little Owl, from reading the various sites, it looks like you have to park in the sailing club car park and walk round the lower end of the sailing lake to get to the reserve ? is that correct ?

Anybody care to drop me a pm with a hint to where to find the Owl ? :)

Thanks in advance :)
