My first reaction was male Red Backed Shrike

Can't give more clues. Someone will see what's in the picture soon. (You've all been very good up until now. And I thought that this was the easiest yet!:cat:)

At least I can have a bit of a rest now! B :);)

BTW. An extra 2 points will be added to the first to get species and precise location...:gn:

nice artworks there, phil o:D

#4:

1. buzzard facing right, hardly convincing myself
2. scaps of a juv lapwing
3. whooper swan, dark spot on the left being base of shank, yellowish towards head/neck which is bent (sleeping bird).
4. i get an owl impression from this one too - tawny owl to be different, back view, left side of bird (in owls without seeing its head we don't really know where they are "facing", literally)
5. i join into the willow grouse (ptarmigan) camp, in spring, head to the right.

#5:

agree on water rail with bill drown in mud (crown and upperparts of bird visible), and yes, just right of middle.

# 5 Yes, a Water Rail...

And the 2nd photo is a juvenile Lapwing. So an extra point for cleverness.:cat: (Taken in August.)

I don't know what my chances are without ever having seen most of the species probably, but:

3. great egret (or whatever it's called in europe)
4. short-eared owl
