am trying spotted fly for this (location as welsh peregrine) although RBS looks like a very good candidate. and of course if there's any point to gather from that brown sulid....i'll don't say no to it ;)

I thought you were talking about the "brown solid" in the roadside toilet where the Pied Fly was.:eek!: And I would never give any points for that!:-O
But now I re-read it? It does say "Sulid"...So have a point.B :)

Remember folks. If you've think that I have added things up wrong, or missed giving points where they are due? Then sing out like a bird!o:)
I am completely fallible, a flawed human being, and often quite drunk!B :)

I'm wondering whether your avatar might not be relevant here........

WP! I'm gonna award you 3 for this. Intimation is as good as saying it I feel!
Then along comes Neil with,
"Well seeing as no one's actually said it - a nice singing male Blue Rock Thrush. "

I think that also deserves a 3 because he was the first to actually say it! But also he stated male, and that it was singing (which it was!)
So I award a clever point for each of those details. Making 5 in total for him.:eek!:

It was indeed a singing male Blue Rock Thrush on a mast 410+ metres above the Algarve at Monte Sao Miguel.

OK, so that takes me out of the running while others attempt answers over the weekend. Good luck folks! See you monday (of course, if it isn't on the right it must be on the left...........

Do you mean its not on the right, or just that it's not a scops owl on the right...

Male Nightingale singing...

Not a Scops Owl. And as it doesn't feature it is not on the right either. But then if I said there was a bird on the right, and it wasn't a Scops, that's be a bit silly eh?
Is your head starting to throb like mine?;)

Not a Nightingale either...

Have a good one WP! This may still not be solved by the time you return!:-O

Now to give a clue:
I used a flash here. Very little MOONSHINE. But there was EYESHINE...:smoke:

I'm thinking it's not going to be an obvious one, so I'll go with Red-necked Nightjar please.
Having said that, it'll probably end up being something completely obscure like a Moorhen!:-O:eek!:

It's a night bird. Not a Scops or RNN. Ignore the flash foreground. And look for eyeshine in the darkness.
I did say this was gonna be punishing.
I haven't let you down.;)

Have a great weekend quizzlings!B :):t:

Well at least this exercise made me clean all the spots off my monitor.

I found two conifers at the back which I couldn't even see before. I've circled a pale dot at the top of one and for want of a better guess I'll try Tawny Owl

Am gonna change the rules slightly and award Trystan 3 points just on location alone. And no latecomer's points on location. I think that's fair seeing how difficult this was, and how he got the eyeshine correct and had to clean his monitor. (You'll be cleaning your optics next Trystan!;))

wasn't it self-evident, that i meant the blue one? .....:eat: :-C

Sorry Lou. Not wishing to be a pedant, but we have Rock Thrush and Blue Rock Thrush. If you say Rock Thrush and not Blue Rock Thrush I can do nothing but accept that answer. The same as if someone were to say Nightingale, and the answer was Thrush Nightingale. It is the omission of a key word that drastically changes the meaning with regard to species. I'm sorry, but I have to be firm here! JP also said Rock Thrush and didn't get points either.
But I'm sure both of you will be scooping the points up as we progress!:t:
